Works with Windows XP and not Windows 7 x64

SABRENT SBT-SCIDE SATA to IDE Ultra ATA-100/133 Mini Converter
SABRENT SBT-SCIDE SATA to IDE Ultra ATA-100/133 Mini Converter

Pros: This device does work when you use it on a system running Windows XP, although some jumper settings may need to be changed on the IDE HDD.

Cons: Where to start? First, this device does not come with an instruction manual which is a problem considering that jumper settings may need to be altered. I found that by setting the IDE HDD to "cable select" a machine running Windows XP was able to recognize and read/write from the drive. However, I would have preferred not to discover this after 20 minutes of trial and error. Second, this device does not seem to work with Windows 7 x64. No matter what combination of device/HDD jumpers I chose, Windows 7 always froze during start with this device installed. I encountered this problem even when I installed Windows 7 on the machine that worked with this device when it was running XP. Third, customer support from Sabrent is a bit lacking. Although they are nice, they are not very knowledgeable. The tech I spoke to had no clue what the jumper settings on the device were for and advised me to try different configurations using trial and error to see if I could get it to work.

Overall Review: I gave this device two stars because it did work on a system running XP; however, I bought this device for a system running Windows 7 x64. Clearly there is a driver/compatibility issue that must be addressed, but is beyond the technical capabilities of Sabrent.
