Let me clear up the sound driver confusion
Pros: This board is amazing hands down! It does everything that it states it can do. Some of the complaints about the sound drivers not working are not true, they just don't understand how to get them working, the integrated sound card works great! *See Below
Cons: The only Cons I see is the IDE port coming out the side instead of facing up, but I knew this before I bought it. Also when you reboot with the driver disk in, a RAID program will load and ask you to create a RAID disk. To get around this simply take the CD out of the drive and restart, lol. No biggie...
Overall Review: Ok here is how to install those sound drivers. First install the Chipset drivers from the disk and reboot. The chipset drivers include the LAN drivers and Geforce drivers. Next install the sound drivers and reboot. When you start back up Windows XP should automatically detect your new sound hardware, simply tell Windows to search on the disk (Usually D:) and it will find and install them itself, boom you have sound, no biggie... If you are running XP 64-bit like I am, you will need to install the XP 64 sound hotfix which is included on the driver disk also. You will need to open explorer and find the folder labeled "sound" and install the file in the "Hotfix" folder, or you can download the hotfix from Microsoft's website directly. This is not an Asus issue, this is for ALL sound drivers using XP 64. I had to do this with my Asrock and Gigabyte boards too. Any questions email me at fwguy1979@hotmail, I'd be happy to walk you through it.
Amazing Card
Pros: Incredible Fast, awesome graphics!! I was playing City of Heroes with all the graphics turned down on 1024 x 768, no AA or AF on my 6800 GTS, now I can play on my widescreen at 1440 x 900 with AA x4, AF x4, and all the other settings maxed out while still getting 75 FPS in all locations.
Cons: This CON is pretty big, which I'm a little upset at EVGA for. The stock heatsink/cooling system on this card blows. It may have a neat little blue/white graphic, but its very inefficient. At idle I was burning 61 C, and at full load 78 C. This is the reason I didn't give it 5 stars.
Overall Review: I went out and purchased the Accelero 2 GPU Cooling system for $30, and the Accelero turbo fans. Pretty easy install and it brought my idle temps to 47 C, and 57 C at full load. I'm very happy with this card now that its running so much cooler, and its super quiet now too, before the fan spun so hard it was extremely load, but not anymore. If you buy this card, be sure to add $30 cost of the Accelero or similiar GPU cooler.
Amazing Card!
Pros: Plugged it in, updated to the newest Nvidia drivers, and away I went!! Just that simple! Quiet, cool, dominates all games on max settings, buy this card!
Cons: None what so ever, this is the best bang for your buck.
Overall Review: This is the third MSI video card I've owned over the past 8 years. I've never had to deal with their customer service because I've never had a bad card from them. Does MSI even make bad cards?
Started having problems 3 hours in
Pros: This card might have rocked if it worked, but alas I never got to play with it.
Cons: After about 3 hours of playing Skyrim I noticed my monitor shutting off and back on again, along with strange horizontal ripples in the screen. I went back to desktop and it continued so I rebooted the computer, still happening. I turned off the computer for the day and the next day it started happening immediately after I turned on the machine. I started playing Skyrim and it continued. I reseated the DVI cable but it persisted. I put my GTX 680 back in and played Skyrim for the next 4 hours without problems. Definitely something wrong with this card. I had it RMAed.
Blacks aren't black at all
Pros: Beautiful picture and vivid colors for gaming.
Cons: Unfortunately this monitor can't display black, it can only display dark gray, which is terrible for gaming. I bought this monitor to play Skyrim and at night it shows a nasty white film over all the dark areas. I read the other reviews and 4/44 reported this same black problem so I'm thinking it's a problem with this particular monitor. One inch string of dead pixels at the top right of the monitor which can happen, but it certainly didn't help with my opinion of this monitor.
Overall Review: When playing Skyrim the daytime viewing is beautiful at 1080p but because this monitor can't display black, it looks terrible at night. I've been using Asus only for monitors since 2008 and have been brand loyal. I'm wondering if Asus just got too big that they lost focus on product quality. I RMAed this monitor for a different Asus monitor so hopefully they can win back my loyalty.
The fans are garbage
Pros: It's sad because the card itself was great.
Cons: I got the card despite the bad comments on the flimsy cheap windforce fan. I plugged it in all excited to find the last fan (3rd from the front) wouldn't spin. I spent all afternoon trying to get it to spin but it wouldn't. I even tried stress testing it thinking maybe if it got hot enough, the card would detect the heat and kick on the third fan but no luck.
Overall Review: Great card, cheap lame windforce fan.
