Coboc 6 ft. Gold Plated, High Speed HDMI to HDMI A/V Cable (Black)

5 out of 5 eggs Does what it says for cheap! 11/29/2013

This review is from: Coboc 6 ft. Gold Plated, High Speed HDMI to HDMI A/V Cable (Black)

Pros: - CHEAP
- Delivers full 1080p

Cons: - It's not diamond encrusted which would allow for better pixels and 0s and 1s...

Other Thoughts: It's an HDMI cable, it's 6ft, it's cheap and good build. What more can you want?

Don't be fooled into paying more at BBuy, or any other A/V store. An HDMI cable is an HDMI cable. Gold/Silver/Platinum or any other metal wire will not make your signal any better. It's either a 0 or a 1 in digital, that's it.

Unless you need to a cable that's >25ft, where you run into impedance issues, and need full 1080p then look into cables that specifically combat that. Or, better yet just purchase an HDMI extender. Those too can be had for cheap.

CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD - PFC Sinewave UPS Systems - Pure Sine Wave | 100% Active PFC Compatible with USB Charging Ports
  • Verified Owner
  • neweggOwned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: - Pure Sinewave
- 1500VA
- Quiet (Coming from a buzzing and ticking Tripp Lite)
- A DISPLAY YOU CAN TURN OFF! (I keep it in my room_
- Looks sexy?

Cons: Honestly, none. Perhaps maybe price? Though I scored this when it was $165 with promo.

Other Thoughts: Currently powering

Cable modem, router (using a 2-outlet splitter cable)
8-port Cisco switch
HTPC/NAS (on 24/7)

Surge only
2 IPS Displays
1 AIO Laser printer
1 2.1 Speakers

I've had 4 brown-outs, and 3 complete blackouts in the past 7 months and thanks to this UPS, my devices never skipped a beat. The battery on this thing is pretty good too.

Having everything off except for Modem/Router/Switch and HTPC I've been able to pull close to 45mins. Not bad :). Then again, I purposefully built the NAS/HTPC to be low powered and I'm also coming from a 7 year old Tripp Lite, so can't really say if that's good or not.

Plextor M5P Series 2.5

4 out of 5 eggs FAST! But died after 4 months... 11/29/2013

This review is from: Plextor M5P Series 2.5" 512GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) PX-512M5Pro

Pros: - 5-year warranty
- 100,000 IOPs
- Averaged 470MB/s Write, 500MB/s Read
- Cost/GB (Snagged it for $360)

Cons: - Died after 4 months of use. Even after upgrading the firmware.
- You will find little to no diagnostic tools from Plextor's support site. Phone support is also not the greatest, but loses an egg for that.

Other Thoughts: Got this to replace a HDD in a Lenovo Y500. Partitioned 64/64GB for Ubuntu 14.04, and Windows 8, with the remaining 384GB partitioned for misc data with Btrfs and LZ4HC compression. The compression really makes this fly when testing with any data intensive workloads (Postgres/Greenplum).

Also run a couple of VMs in Ubuntu from the Btrfs compressed partition and helps there a lot too. Although, it's probably overkill and you should be fine without compression. Either way, this thing blows my Crucial M4 256GB out of the water.

Only complaint[s] were less than helpful tech support (losing an egg), and the drive dieing after only 4 months but - hey, that's what warranties are for!
