AVerMedia A188-AF AVerTVHD Duet PCTV tuner (A188)

5 out of 5 eggs A terrific tuner card 09/11/2009

This review is from: AVerMedia A188-AF AVerTVHD Duet PCTV tuner (A188)

Pros: A single input for 2 tuners, excellent price, installed easily and without problem, performance is excellent. Sensitivity seems to be very good.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I own 3 ADSTech Instant HDTV tuners and have used them for about 3 years. The Avermedia produces results that are every bit as good as the ADSTech and combines 2 digital tuners on a single PCI-e card.

Foxconn 45GMX LGA 775 Intel 945G Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

5 out of 5 eggs An excellent mobo 11/21/2008

This review is from: Foxconn 45GMX LGA 775 Intel 945G Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: This board does everything well. I've never had a minute's trouble with it. My e7400 2.5 GHz CPU overclocks to 3.1 GHz, All of the USB stuff works perfectly. I'm using XP 64 bit and the combo is very stable.

Cons: There's one hidden trap in the setup process. When you load the OS, don't have anything plugged into any of the USB ports except a keyboard and a mouse. Otherwise, the USB drivers won't load correctly. Took me a phone call to their excellent tech support to find this out.

Other Thoughts: This is the best mobo I've had in years. Everything works and works well. I'm beginning to suspect that many problems I blamed in the past on Microsoft were actually mobo/BIOS problems.

VisionTek Radeon HD 3450 DirectX 10.1 900231 512MB 64-Bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card
  • neweggOwned For: 1 day to 1 week

Pros: Reliable handling of HDCP, awakens correctly from standby mode, excellent detail and color rendition, smooth and clean video, no fan, very good utility software, excellent price, easy install.

Cons: Haven't gotten the HDMI audio to work yet (and yes, I did install the latest Realtek driver software). This isn't a big deal because I can get 5.1 channel audio over the SP/DIF optical link. It may become important if and when I get a bluray player with hi-def audio.

Other Thoughts: This is my third video card for my HTPC and the first one that handles hi-def video correctly. My previous ones (Gigabyte and MSI, both using the Nvidia chip) were frustratingly unreliable in their inability to handle the DVI/HDMI interface consistently.
I would have given this a 5 if the HDMI audio worked, but the video performance is so good it's a 4 overall
