Very nice workstation
Pros: Was VERY suprised ( in a good way ) the system did not come loaded with bloatware that I needed to un-install. Matter of fact, the only icon on the desktop was the recycle bin ! Made my job a ton easier. System is fast ( for business use ), and quiet. Very happy so far.
Cons: Only comes with 512 Meg of ram, but DDR2 is dirt cheap. I threw a 1 gig stick in it, and all is good.
Overall Review: Much happier with this unit than the Acer's I've bought in the past. The Acer's aren't bad computers, they just come with a TON of bloatware that needs to be un-installed. This HP is a nice, in-expensive, dual-core workstation.
Nice unit but CD-Rom is a pain
Pros: Compact, stable, relatively quiet, good price.
Cons: CD-Rom install is a major hassle. The flimsy button on the front panel has to line up just perfectly to operate the door. Requires WAY too much fine tuning of the placement of the CD-Rom.
Overall Review: Would of gave it 5 stars, but it took me about a dozen tries to get the CD-Rom lined up, and it still doesn't operate the door every time.
Not for low profile case !!
Pros: The 6450 is a great HTPC card, and the price after rebate is good
Cons: This card, even with the low-profile bracket will not fit in my Lian Li PC-C37B HTPC case. The heatsink rises above the top of the pc board on this card. Dont know how they can call it low-profile ready, if it doesn't fit in low-profile cases.
Comments: Finally got this board working. I'm not a tech, but I've built about 40 -50 systems over the years. Wanted to use some Mushkin and Crucial PC133 memory I had left over so I purchased this board with a Athlon 1600+ Right from the start had problems with ramdom booting problems. Even with the system set-up for 100/100 operation, it would just re-boot. Tried every combination of memory, video cards , bios settings I could think of, but still no luck. The board would run fine with a Duron 700 and a Duron 900 that I had lying around. Checked out the specs on my power supply. It was a Chieftech 340 Watt Supply: +5v - 30 Amp +12V - 14 Amp +3.3V - 28 Amp After reviewing the posts here, upgraded to a 430 Watt Antec True Power supply. +5v - 36A +12V - 20A +3.3V - 28 Amp. System is now solid as a rock with the 1600+ Even though the 3.3V rating is the same at 28Amps, all I can say is that in my case, the power supply made all the difference. I'm going to see if a somewhat cheaper supply ( damn Antec was 100 bucks !! ) will work. Can't really recommend this board. It is in-expensive and you can use the cheaper PC133 memory, but if you have to buy a more expensive supply to run it, are you really saving any money ???? BTW, I have the same Chieftec power supplies in about 3 other Athlon systems and it works fine. Buyer beware on this board. As far as Newegg, I purchase ALL my parts from them. Great prices and fast delivery, can't really ask for more.
