4 out of 4 Worked Fine
Pros: Newegg packed properly in a styrofoam hard drive "rack". Plugged in and worked flawlessly. Price and capacity were good for a low cost RAID application.
Cons: None for me so far.
Overall Review: 2 drives mirrored in RAID 1. Using LSI MegaRaid SAS 9240-8i because I've had good luck with that model previously. Sounds like the success rate of these things is directly proportional to the care Newegg ships em with.
Defective Unit - Warranty Covered It
Pros: Decent features at a pretty good price. Fits in nicely as a fax machine with some capability as a backup copier/printer.
Cons: The unit I got was defective. It's had problem handling paper from the first day. I had to constantly fiddle with it so that it would print. Incoming faxes got lost because the printer held it waiting for someone to fill the already filled paper tray - then it got powered off and dumped the faxes in memory. Now it has a broken sensor inside that has convinced the unit there is a paper jam inside of it. It has stopped printing completely. I called Brother tech support highly skeptical that it would get anything accomplished. I got a very polite, well spoken technician after answering through 60-90 seconds of automated menus. She walked me through about 10 minutes of scripted steps -despite my assurances that I'd already tried everything she was instructing me to do. After jumping through all the hoops, she conceded and checked the warranty. Brother is mailing me a refurbished unit to replace the defective one I got. Annoying, but Brother did make this right.
Overall Review: The unit was broken. Their tech support wasn't efficient, but it did get the job done at the end of the day. I'm a big fan of Brother for their features to price ratio, but previously I've always thought of their products as toasters. Toss em when they break. Their tech support actually earned kudos today for performing to acceptable standards. Apparently they've made progress improving what had previously been a complete waste of time when calling Brother tech support.
What a Laptop - its Wizard!
Pros: Very light weight design in a slick package. It's half tablet, half laptop with a physical keyboard and wireless mouse. The touch screen is fantastic. This is the future of ultra-books and it's here now. Every Acer I've purchased has been solid, this looks to be no different despite its fancy design aspirations. This was bought for a travelling executive who doesn't do much more than read email and browse the web, but needed a real Windows laptop just in case he needed to do some real work. This device takes the best of both formats and it absolutely kills. I recommend this as a lightweight, travelling computer without reservations.
Cons: Windows 8. Costs three times as much as a cheap laptop that will do everything this machine will do, albeit with far less style points and twice the weight.
Overall Review: Despise Windows 8 on a desktop computer all you want (I do too) but on this it works.
Solid Monitor - Great Price
Pros: solid, reliable, heavy duty stand with height, swivel and tilt, built in speakers. I bought 20 of these and haven't had a problem with a single one. The stands are so good I'm recycling them onto other monitors after mounting these onto Planar dual screen stands.
Cons: Um, I dunno. The audio in jack is colored blue and doesn't match the light green cable that comes with the monitor?
Overall Review: Buy these in large quantities with zero regrets
Impressive For Price
Pros: Can't say enough good things about these headphones. These headphones are good enough to buy for 30 dollars. Fairly comfortable, rugged, sound is way better than any other $10 set of headphones you can find. We bought 30 pairs of them for our tour guide system and everyone who tries them is impressed. The bass these things can produce for the price is unmatched.
Cons: They don't wash my car for me? They're relatively heavier than other cheapo headsets. Probably not good for excercising with these on.
Overall Review: Have no hesitation buying these - unless maybe you want a super lightweight set of headphones with tinny sound.
Solid Business PC
Pros: Solid hardware despite bargain price. I've bought over 50 of these low end Compaq/HP 500B or 505B models and haven't had a single one with bad hardware. Decent performance for basic business tasks.
Cons: Set your expectations realistically and there really aren't any.
Overall Review: I can't vouch for the state of the OS and bloatware that comes pre-installed. First thing I do when I get these things out of the box is image the hard drive with a clean build. Expect bloatware and/or a format c:
