SonicWall 01-SSC-8820 TZ 210 Wireless-N Secure Upgrade Plus 3 Yrs CGSS
SonicWall 01-SSC-8820 TZ 210 Wireless-N Secure Upgrade Plus 3 Yrs CGSS

Pros: We've been using Sonicwall for years because they create rock solid VPN tunnels. Secure upgrade plus provided us with 3 years of Comprehensive Gateway Security Suite and 3 years of 24/7 tech support, plus this amazing device. Setup was easy, we just created the export file on the old Sonicwall, uploaded it to this one, and plugged it in. Registration was easy.

Cons: It didn't like our old RADIUS setup, so we switched it over to LDAP, no biggie. This is actually a pro for the 24/7 support. They helped me do this the Saturday after I installed the device.

Overall Review: 3 years of GCSS and 24/7 support costs a lot more when purchased separately so if you have a Sonicwall, this is the upgrade route of choice. We upgraded from a Sonicwall TZ170 SPW but you can also upgrade from competing UTM devices using this offer as well. Info is on the Sonicwall website.

Not for Prime Time, but OK

Xerox DocuMate 152 XDM152D-WU Duplex Sheetfed Document Scanner
Xerox DocuMate 152 XDM152D-WU Duplex Sheetfed Document Scanner

Pros: Twain, fast, cheap

Cons: Takes forever to warm up. Sometimes needs to be turned off and on to get its act together.

Overall Review: Used in a medical office. Not really good for scanning in a fast paced environment like the reception area, but ok for scanning smaller correspondence in the back office. If you're looking for something fast and reliable that doesn't crash or take forever to warm up, go with the more expensive Fujitsu FI series.

Interesting Printer

Brother HL-2270DW Wireless Monochrome Laser Printer
Brother HL-2270DW Wireless Monochrome Laser Printer

Pros: Fast, Cheap, Duplex, Network Interface, Prints square on the page... met my needs.

Cons: Draws a phenomenal amount of power. It's got to be 1000 Watts or more. Refused to connect to my Sonicwall TZ210 wirelessly.

Overall Review: It made every both my UPSs scream for mercy when I tried to plug it in in my office. I moved it to another circuit with just a desktop, scanner, and another printer on it and it seems to be fine. The wireless doesn't like something about my setup, but who cares, it gets an IP instantly on the LAN. I actually like this printer's performance, but it could be a lot more polished.
