Tascam FW-1884

Pros: Works with Tascam FW-1884 under 7x64..
Cons: Not really a con, but needs molex power.. had to use an extender on large case..
Dissapointing

Pros: It is visually very appealing.
Cons: It has a nasty habit of not turning itself off, and will happily boil water for WAY longer than it should. I'm not sure if this is because it simply cannot reach the temperature because of the poor insulation properties of glass, or if the thermostat is a bit iffy. Secondly, I have hard water with iron, so after a week of use, there was a noticeable build up on the heating element which (as per manufacturers directions) was removed with some vinegar. Overall I just felt like for $55 it really should have performed better. The plastic top feels really cheap, and while it hasn't broken yet, it feels like its just a matter of time until it does. Slightly disturbed by the drops of water that appear on the base, although it's likely those come from either condensation or a leak someplace or me being careless while filling it up..
Overall Review: I would just get a non-glass kettle next time.
Junk with no CS

Pros: cheap
Cons: Died within 6 months.. Only way to get RMA with manufacturer is to email them - and the email address is dead - mail returned undeliverable (nice touch)..
Smoking

Pros: Fast.. fast... Fast.. 44C idle, 55C under load.. Doesnt cost $1000..OC's like a speed freak on Friday night in a Columbian meth lab..
Cons: Pins.. Pins bend if you are not careful or your 14 year old accidentally knocks the cpu 6 inches from the top of the pc onto the floor, this ensures some quality time of you, the processor, a magnifying glass, a strong light, and some very delicate work..
Overall Review: Changed one byte in the bios (increased multiplier by 2 and bada bing bada boom.. 3.4 ghz and 5000 more points in 3dmark06. (thats the equivalent of another $500 gfx card.. ) Have yet to really push the OC, I figured I'd try baby steps and see how it went.. basically am very happy with how it performs with a mild 10% increase in power. Made Supreme Commander run like I always dreamed it would...
Beware of the Asus Bios monster

Pros: More options than any sane person could ever need. Once up and running with Phenom 940. Excellent ON and reset button on the mobo. CMos reset button handy ! nice LCD that displays status / err msgs that at least keep you focused on what any problems are. Boatloads of USB + Firewire. Lots of copper used, and it gets warm ! Great Newegg Combo deal with CPU / ram
Cons: The dreaded ASUS bios monster.. Just because you are buying a brand new board, doesnt mean it has a brand new bios.. Highly important if your new CPU wasnt supported until recently. (check their supported cpu / bios list on asus website). If it isnt supported you are in for a world of pain as you'll have to get another cpu to boot the system and update it !There's some serious issues with velociraptors from what i've read and will no doubt be fixed in an upcoming bios fix, but my older raptors work great. Did not recognize 1066 ram, only set it to 800, ez to change 1 number in bios to fix that tho.. The fact there is NO PS2 MOUSE SOCKET !!! ONLY USB made me very sad as I have a four port dual monitor KVM with ps2 connections.. $259 price tag..
Overall Review: Overall, i took 2 eggs off for the things listed in cons.. I talked to tech support twice today, and one of the times they hung up on me (accidentally). Asus need to come up with a way to update the bios without a cpu present if their programmers cant code the bios to anticipate newer cpu's. I have yet to really push this board.. My old a8n-sli Premium would choke if you had more than 8 ide / usb drive devices - an issue they never bothered to fix, and while that kind of issue wont affect most people out there, it's worth taking note of if you are gonna use this board in a behemoth of a computer.. Would I buy this exact model again.. definitely maybe, but after buying asus boards for the last 5 years, I'm thinking it might be time to take a good hard look at Gigabyte, DFI, etc.
