Follow up response to 2nd dead drive from manufacturer

OCZ Octane 2.5" 64GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) OCT1-25SAT2-64G
OCZ Octane 2.5" 64GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) OCT1-25SAT2-64G

Pros: None. I bought one drive, it failed. Got a replacement and it failed 7 weeks later. After contacting OCZ support, their response to me involves a tearing my system apart and spending over 4 hours (per their instructions) resetting the drive and doing up follow up integrity checks and then, when the drive fails that test - submit the results to OCZ and maybe, just maybe they'll actually replace this brick that currently can't even make it through a chkdsk scan. This is the second drive from their company that has failed, and feedback herein shows that I am not alone in that circumstance, it becomes a question of "Do I want to spend an afternoon fighting with this so I can show more proof that it's defective?" Seems like endless hurdles are thrown up to prevent a customer from actually receiving value from OCZ. I strongly advise any consumers to avoid this company and their spotty, defective products. Attached in the Cons & Other thoughts sections are some of the instructions I received.

Cons: After getting a 2nd dead drive and submitting a ticket to the OCZ website I received the following response (posted below). Trouble Ticket ID: 296538 Description: OCZ Octane OCT1-25SAT2-64G 2.5" 64GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD ------------------------------------------------------- Please be advised that the status on your trouble ticket has been changed from Acknowledged to Waiting on Customer with the following comment: ------------------------------------------------------- Comment: I recommend resetting the drive, and then once the drive has been reset to then test the drive to ensure it is working properly. To do this use the toolbox utility to flash the firmware on the drive and then secure erase the drive. This is a destructive method and will require a full reinstall after it has been reset, but it will reset everything on the drive, including the drive’s controller. The same toolbox utility will also be able to reflash the drive.

Overall Review: In order for the toolbox to interact with the drive the drive needs to be connected to the computer internally. If there is anything between the drive and the motherboard that may interfere with the toolbox interacting with the drive. A raid controller or USB-SATA drive enclosure will prevent the toolbox from communicating with the drive as these may not allow the proper commands to pass through these other pieces of hardware. After you have reset the drive you will need to create a new partition on the drive. This can be done within Windows using the disk management utility. Then after the drive has been reset and a new partition created I recommend testing the drive for data integrity to see if there are any hardware faults on the drive. A good way to test an SSD is to do an input/output comparison test on the drive while the SSD is being used as a secondary, non-booting type drive. This tests the drive by writing data to it, and then reading it back and verifying that the

DO NOT BUY THIS MOUSE

Corsair Vengeance M90 Black 15 Buttons 1 x Wheel USB Wired Laser 5700 dpi Performance, MMO/RTS Gaming Mouse
Corsair Vengeance M90 Black 15 Buttons 1 x Wheel USB Wired Laser 5700 dpi Performance, MMO/RTS Gaming Mouse

Pros: Ergonomic, physically attractive, solid build.

Cons: Mouse shorts out. constantly. I actually feel a light spark about 30% of the time I first use it. It sparks, then windows loses it's mouse and it takes about 40 seconds to reestablish itself. Single worst tech purchase that wasn't 100% DOA on purchase.

Overall Review: Would suggest avoiding any other Corsair products based on this mouse.

0 for 2 so far.

OCZ Octane 2.5" 64GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) OCT1-25SAT2-64G

Pros: Faster access times, lower power consumption

Cons: First one I received died in 3 weeks. RMA'd it and it's replacement lasted 7 weeks. I'm no officially out of RMA period and have to deal with OCZ on the slim chance of a third replacement. Having to serially tear my PC apart and do a reinstall hasn't been particularly fun.

Overall Review: Can't recommend the product at this point. Will post follow up feedback regarding how OCZ handles this issue now.

Have had two fail in a row. 2nd after 50 days - out of RMA.

OCZ Octane 2.5" 64GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) OCT1-25SAT2-64G
OCZ Octane 2.5" 64GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) OCT1-25SAT2-64G

Pros: Fast data transfer. OS installs take very little time. System boots up in no time.

Cons: First one failed in a few weeks, RMA'd it and got a replacement which has starting shutting off and freezing 52 days after installation. This puts me out of RMA and now I have to contact OCZ and see what they will do. Considering that I'm 0 for 2, I can't recommend this product in any way shape or form.
