1 Kiliwatt is worth it

PC Power and Cooling Turbo-Cool 1KW-Quad SLI T1KW-4E 1000W Continuous @ 50°C EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Certified Active PFC Power Supply
PC Power and Cooling Turbo-Cool 1KW-Quad SLI T1KW-4E 1000W Continuous @ 50°C EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: I wasted time with a Duro 900w discount power supply. It was not enough for my AMD 4800 on an ABIT Fatal!ty board. I have 6 hdds, two lightscribe burners, a water cooling system, the uguru panel and 8 large fans. I wasted two weeks waiting for RMAs - I installed two motherboards, also a waste of time. The PSU was the only thing I went cheap on, and I paid for it in my time. This one is expensive, but quiet and it works.

Cons: None.

Overall Review: It is really big, longer than a normal PSU, and may not fit in every case. Take measurements before ordering.

Lightscribe cool, but Benq is not ready for prime time

Pros: I own two Benq lightscribe drives. The software included with them is Nero 6 (even though the shipping version of Nero is now 7). Once installed, the drives work great, although the issues I have are with Lightscribe. It seems that the drives operate in generic mode, and still require firmware tweaks, new software, and more downloads. I generated some Lightscribed DVDs and CDs for customer distribution. They worked, but oi=nly in generic mode ( sort of draft mode for Lightscribe). I am sure I will eventually sort it out. Be cautioned - I suspect that Lightscribe will take a bit of work to get right no matter which brand you buy. Be ready to spend time for support emails, downloads, firmware and software upgrades and phone calls.

Cons: It would be nice if Benq got the firmware installed enough that the drives would burn Lightscribe in even a "basic" or normal resolution rather than the "generic" which is the only option that I have on brand new drives fresh out of the box.

Overall Review: THey need to get the technology right to sell it. I can burn the data onto the DVD in less than 5 minutes, but it takes 15 to burn the label in "generic" mode, and double that for a better quality.

7900 GTX

EVGA 512-P2-N575-AX GeForce 7900GTX 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Supported Video Card
EVGA 512-P2-N575-AX GeForce 7900GTX 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Supported Video Card

Pros: Well done by EVGA. Nice board, stable even with factory overclocking.

Cons: THe factory website sucks for downloading drivers. They repackage NVidia drivers, so I ended up using the Forceware drivers, since the EVGA site downloads very slowly. This card is very big and long. It just fit over a built in chip cooler on the MB and just clears the HDDs.

Overall Review: It would be nice to have a water block on the CPU from the factory as an option.

AMD is rock solid

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ - Athlon 64 X2 Toledo Dual-Core 2.4 GHz Socket 939 Processor - ADA4800CDBOX
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ - Athlon 64 X2 Toledo Dual-Core 2.4 GHz Socket 939 Processor - ADA4800CDBOX

Pros: A great CPU - this one is made better since I installed it on ABIT's A8n sli fatal!ty board with uguru. I also have thermaltake's bigwater cooling system. THe combination allows rock solid performace, adn I can overclock the normal 2400mhz to over 3000. When I do push it too far, uguru intercepts on the reboot and puts the bios back to the prior settings. What is nice is that the CPU runs full time at 24C, even heavily OCed, playing games and running CAD apps. Well done AMD.

Cons: Price. Then again, you get what you pay for.
