works ok
Pros: Unit works as advertised for the price paid. CHEAP. Quick connect. stereo + renderer is excellent.
Cons: doesn't go 20M (more like 8-10M) Didn't see any documentation or explaination of features. Breaks my RDP on win 7 64bit.
Overall Review: Overall I am happy - however. The OEM is a company called CSR and the unit model is no where to be found so trying to determine if Software upgrades exist is not possible. Other poster commented that CSR website is useless... thats accurate.
Junk by any other name
Pros: None?
Cons: As a certified Video Pro, I can assure you this camera is OLD technology. It may look like a good possibility but its not. the 2MP claim is deceptive, it's a 4:3 output. Color detection in even a minor light is lost, and it flips to B/W. Zoom was extremely poor and either the unit I got was bad or... The firmware is from 2010. Toshiba basically mass produced this and has so much left over they are still around. There are too many 1080p 2MP cameras out there that are newer. Get one which declares ONVIF 2.04 or ONVIF S compatibility if you want to make it work with your Sec. VMS.
Vantec Hub works as advertised
Pros: Basic features work as described by the product page. No hidden troubles to worry bout (such as odd drivers etc). Plug and play on my 3.0 port to drive this, with full speeds to my 3.0 devices. No Power issues to speak of, although I don't use 'charger' features of a 3.0 port in my setup.
Cons: Large device, 10 ports is overkill for many people - other units exists with less ports that are cheaper overall.
Overall Review: Vantec is a good name in my book for products of this type. I've used their HD cases for external 2.0 USB and ESAtA without problems. I like them and will keep buying.
TP link 5 port gigabit
Pros: Basic functionality is fine for splitting a single ethernet to multiple workstations under desk etc. The price is excellent and the quality of the unit look is great - much better than the old metal netgear 4-5 port hubs.
Cons: One weakness is no leds to indicate giga vs fast ether speeds. It would be nice to have the amber/green light to reflect speed of what is connected.
Cable doesn't work
Pros: Quality looking cable, connectors are done well.
Cons: Doesn't work
Overall Review: The 'specs' on USB 3.0 cable says 3 meters... roughly 10 feet. I bought this 15' cable and struggled thinking I had bad USB ports on my ASUS motherboard. Turns out that when I swapped to a 10' cable my problems went away. I don't have the engineering tools (a scope and digital ohmeter etc) to prove the cable is the failure, but I suspect it is the length and not the cable. Be Careful with this cable choice.
Works To a Point
Pros: HPOE - 30 watts is much more useful for devices such as security cameras and other higher draw devices. Transformer has Mount stubs for posts/walls etc.
Cons: Large transformer - unnecessarily large transformer. Not switchable from 5/12/24/48 v.
Overall Review: This unit did its job however. THe specification for HPOE is still slightly debated. The documentation doesn't give clear detail about the wire resistance or technical info about what cables are necessary to carry the voltage... in my implementation, I wanted the Cat5 to be 50m... the HPOE worked in the test environment when the cable length was 3meters. When the extra distance was added the PTZ Camera wouldn't work. Ultimately I had to run a power cable to the camera location. In this case, my PTZ camera was drawing 33watts, 10% over the 802.3at spec (which is technically 29.3 watts at 100m). Also - the splitters at the other end... be careful not to attempt using generic 802.3af (standard POE) or they will get very hot over time and likely die an early life. Use high quality cabling. The new cisco HPOE Ultimate (60watts) is very interesting technology to be watching at this time tho extremely expensive.
