Expert overclocker
Pros: This is follow up review to expand what I have discovered. - power control circuit Still using old faithful Phenom II 965. Stock is 3.4 GHz. Running it 3980 MHz at super low voltage of 1.385 V Vcore. This is stable. And to accomplish this I had to toy around power circuit in bios (DIGI+ section). Previously I could not get same chip to go over 3.8 GHz on 1.47 V Vcore. Currently running 35 C idle and 53 C under load on all cores. I would not have believed until I actually managed to see that it is possible with this board.
Cons: SATA is software mode. Performance wise is not worth it unless you plan on moving loads of data through your system. I was able to run RAID 0 configuration with 2 SSD and had problems: - first it was hard to get windows 7 setup to use drivers - boot up speed was twice! longer compared to single SSD drive - issues with sound driver when running game that has many sound threads (this is particular to Global Agenda game) - jumper to reset BIOS; not a painful feature, but along 'I need to do it ASAP' thing. - reports incorrect CPU speeds; this is particularly deceiving when you're trying to achieve certain speeds in BIOS; when booting up BIOS would report slightly higher clock speeds than actual; and this is still a problem with latest revision of BIOS
Overall Review: Very good board to push your chip literally to maximum speed without breaking high temperatures of higher Vcore. I would still advise on closed loop water coolers as I'm currently using one. Also, in BIOS under memory section alot of options would need to be turned 'disabled' to improve stability of ram, since your software might not like the way BIOS toys with it.
Fair
Pros: - loads of buttons - customizable dpi - cord looks like cat-chew-proof Looks good; comes in nice albeit useless packaging.
Cons: - mouse balance: once grasped you can notice that mouse pointer would move a bit when pressing normal left or right keys; the grip has to be more exact to avoid that, so you have to be more careful how you hold it - very light construction: mouse is very light and can easily be picked up if needed, however it causes to need more adjustments with right hand to handle it without a wobble on key press - if lights are enabled mouse gets hot: it can be quite a problem once you try to spend more than half an hour using this mouse and hand starts sweating, even in normal 70 F environments, unless you have ventilation put up close to your hand - registration is required to even upload mappings for your keys onto mouse
Overall Review: Good concept mouse. I like it for features. Construction wise it fails. To operate with minimum discomfort small hands only. Maybe I'm out of touch with mouse standards, but I fail to see comfort features. Cord, buttons and lights are not comfort to me. Comfort is how mouse tracks, shakes or presses during a grip. Would not buy or recommend this product to anyone. If you are entranced as to expect certain results from your mouse be prepared to live with different standards for your mouse. This mouse would require certain amount of time to observe how it can be used more efficiently, though with a discomfort.
Solid Motherboard
Pros: Plenty of external hookups for whatever need you might have. PCIE or mSATA Good layout around APU BIOS features and self-update Can run high speed memory
Cons: -Was not able to run my Gskill Ripjaws Z 2400 2x4G memory (F3-2400C10D-8GZH) at rated speeds. BIOS loads XMP profile fine, and runs memory at 2133 speeds fine, but not 2400. - Only one USB3 header for those who care
Overall Review: Using this board for HTPC computer than can later be used as mini-desktop if need be. I didn't have a use for wifi module since I planned on mSATA. Assembly and installation of this board and APU has been painless and straightforward. Now, memory was a bit of chore since it refused to run at 2400 speeds. BIOS has good features for overclocking, however I would caution against it since this board may not provide enough power regulation to run overclocks stable. Also, this board has smaller footprint so heating up will be a problem with heat dissipation. I would say that good overclock for APU might quite be possible with closed liquid cooler. Running A8-7600 on this board and so far so good.
Well rounded low power CPU
Pros: Runs cool. Runs normal programs very well considering this is 25W package chip.
Cons: Can't run high speed memory and only single channel set up.
Overall Review: Overall this is very good chip for your everyday tasks which include anything from browsing to watching movies. I suspect this is a very good candidate for dedicated network boxes due to very low power. I'm using this CPU in workstation set up without any problems. Runs everything you can throw at it without any slowdowns. Pair it with SSD and you've got yourself very nice system.
Solid MB
Pros: Small form factor. Three video outputs. Loads of configuration options in BIOS. BIOS supports XMP for memory settings, so less time to get your memory sticks running. Windows 8.1 has all drivers installed by default
Cons: - For some reason my ps2 keyboard refused to work in windows 8.1 . It works fine in BIOS. - Once you have UEFI enabled you have literally zero time to enter BIOS. I was not able to get into BIOS on my ps2 keyboard due to this since windows was loading super fast.
Overall Review: The computer is built for general purpose tasks. No gaming, no extensive storage attached. Some people may need more SATA ports, however for workstation this is even plenty. Small footprint for the board. You've got to be careful how you lay your cables around if you're using smaller case. No mSATA. Only mini-PCIE if that matters to you. Plenty of other headers if you need USB2.0 This motherboard makes a well rounded computer, very low power but yet speedy.
Works good
Pros: - Good coverage considering unit sits in basement all the time - Stable all the time once on latest firmware - A lot of configuration options to help managing your network
Cons: None
Overall Review: Have been using this unit for two months and so far have been happy with it. I'm not using a lot of options that current firmware provides, so I cannot comment about advanced functionality, but it does good what is expected of this router: stability, coverage and speed.
