This review is from: OCZ Summit 2.5" 250GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) OCZSSD2-1SUM250G
Pros: This is my first hardware review on any site. The technology deserves it...
I purchased a new 17" MacBook Pro with the 3.06 GHZ CPU upgrade and 4GB of memory for intense Xcode iPhone programming, but I decided to buy this drive and install it myself rather than going with their available 250G SSD upgrade. All I can say is WOW; if you can justify the cost, especially for business use, it is a no-thought-necessary purchase.
OSX now completely boots in under 5 seconds and other applications like Xcode which used to take 10-15 seconds to fully launch now do so in about a second. Medium sized apps such as web browsers load in milliseconds, file copying is amazingly fast, apps run much faster even after initial launch, and so on. It doubled the usefulness of my new MacBook Pro... This mobile hardware is far more powerful than a desktop system I bought about a year ago, and with Windows installed as a 2nd OS it will be a great primary work system.
Cons: The first shipped drive showed up dead. NewEgg paid for my overnight shipping to have another delivered immediately and had me a new drive the following day, so although it was a slight annoyance - NewEgg came through and satisfied my frustration.
Other Thoughts: Here are some snippets from my Xbench results, both taken with nothing else running on a fresh install of OSX - hours within each other.
