Not for gaming

OCZ Obsidian 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model OCZ3OB1600LV4GK
OCZ Obsidian 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model OCZ3OB1600LV4GK

Pros: Runs at advertised speeds... sorta. Passes Memtest like a breeze.

Cons: After first getting the timings right it worked great with my Ubuntu installation. Since buying and switching over to Windows 7 though, I've had nothing but problems. Any game I went into (LoL, L4D, and even some free MMOs with cheesy graphics) would always crash in 15-45 minutes, and usually bring the whole system to a BSOD. I troubleshooted and ended up replacing both my graphics card and PSU but still having the same problem. Every once in awhile it will crash Google Chrome or Windows Aero. The BSODs are somewhat revealing, and while the errors range quite a bit, Technet will always say that the cause could be bad RAM.

Overall Review: Had to set the timings manually at first, not really a big deal though. When I bought this, it was easily 50-100 less than anything else of similar size and speed. That's not really the case anymore. Go ahead and spend the 5-10 bucks more and get something more reliable that also has better timings.

Best Monitor I've Ever Had

ASUS VH236H Black 23" Full HD Widescreen LCD Monitor w/ Speakers 300 cd/m2 20000 :1 (ASCR)

Pros: 2ms response time is absolutely amazing for gaming. So much brighter than my other LCDs, and that's with the settings turned down!

Cons: Only one slight nitpick: Windows 7 UAC popups will make my screen go black for a frame or two, and every once in awhile the monitor considers this as a computer shut off and will go into power save mode. I end up having to wait almost a second as the monitor tries to come back out of powersave.

Overall Review: I just love Asus in general.

Great Value

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 - Core 2 Quad Yorkfield Quad-Core 2.5 GHz LGA 775 95W Desktop Processor - BX80580Q8300

Pros: Definite best bang for the buck! I haven't even felt the need to overclock this guy, and it will be the last thing I upgrade in this budget pc build. Fan runs cool

Cons: none.

Overall Review: With all 4 cores running at 100% for hours, the stock fan keeps them at around 36 or 37 degrees Celsius. Not to mention it's the quietest fan in my setup.

Perfect fit

Dynatron DB1206SPG PCI Slot Case Cooler
Dynatron DB1206SPG PCI Slot Case Cooler

Pros: This fan matches up with the fan on my 9800GT perfectly! It is very effective in moving the heat it generates out because of that.

Cons: None really, It's a little loud the first few seconds of startup, but that may just be my case fan, I still can't tell. It took about 6 months to get that way and I'm sure some WD-40 could fix that :)
