Stay away!
Pros: It was cheap.
Cons: A couple months after buying this drive, it died. I did a cross ship RMA and WD put 2x what I paid for the drive on my credit card to ensure I shipped back the dead one. Sadly, the replacement drive was DOA, so another credit hold and another replacement. That was 3 months ago and the most recent drive will only sit there and click. Sadly, despite being easily within the original drive's warranty, they won't replace it again since they gave me 30 days on the refurb they sent me. You get what you pay for, buy a drive from any other manufacturer.
Overall Review: The last 5 drives that I've had die are WDC. They were great 10 years ago, but quality has gone down precipitously in the last decade. Just not worth it now.
Don't trust the rebate
Pros: It's a great, cheapo card that does what is asked of it. Don't expect to play fancy new games on it, but it works fine for watching movies quietly.
Cons: When I ordered this, it was free (plus tax) after rebate. It's been nearly a month since I mailed in the rebate. No response from MSI whatsoever (they say wait three weeks). I picked it up as a spare just in case, but not really worth it if you never get the rebate.
Overall Review: It's a standard cheapo, quiet card. If you're up for paying the cost w/o the rebate, go for it. If you don't want added inconvenience of gambling the cost of it, go find another card.
Useless RAID card, nice enclosure
Pros: The enclosure seems rather nice, I like the backplane and the compact size of it all.
Cons: The esata card that they ship with it is utter trash. I've tried every version of the bios/drivers/raid manager that has been released for this thing and I can't get it to actually act as a RAID card (yes, I'm using the rxxxx.bin bios files). When booting the computer, the card's bios only sees one of the 4 drives. Windows sees all 4 as individual drives, but the RAID software reports no raid cards installed.
Overall Review: Apparently I can use this as a basic enclosure with 4 separate drives, but it is useless as a RAID array. I got a good deal on it, and if you have a spare esata port that will handle the requisite port multiplication, then it's worthwhile. If you plan to rely on the card they ship with it, then you should definitely pass.
