Great Headset

Plantronics CS55 Wireless Office Headset System
Plantronics CS55 Wireless Office Headset System

Pros: Great Headset. Does exactly what it's supposed to do.

Cons: None

Overall Review: After buying, and returning the Jabra M5390, this headset is a godsend. The Jabra was a total piece of garbage. It, and the replacement I got after I sent the first one back would disconnect itself from the base multiple times per day. You would have to go through the entire pairing process all over again. This headset is flawless so far. It's never disconnected itself. Good range. Good volume. Comfortable with multiple ways to adjust it to fit just about any head / ear. 5 eggs on this one. Thanks Newegg!

Great router if you get one that works

NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 Dual Band Wi-Fi Router, Gigabit Router, Open Source Support, Circle with Smart Parental Controls, Compatible with Amazon Alexa (R7000)

Pros: Fast. Range is outstanding. Rock solid stable if you get one that works.

Cons: Some of them appear to come with bad hardware

Overall Review: Ok, so I gave this 1 star because I know that's the reviews people will read when they want to know what the problems are. Fortunately, even though I gave this a 1 star, the problem does appear to be fixable. The first router I got worked great for the first week. After that, I started getting the random disconnects of all my wireless devices that you see many, many people talk about in reviews of this product. It would just randomly disconnect all of my wireless devices all at the same time once or twice a day. A few minutes later, everything would reconnect and work just fine, but it sucks when you are in the middle of a movie, or a game or something and you can pretty much count on at least 1 or 2 disconnects each day. I called tech support and they had me update the firmware, of course. They walked me through a special procedure where I updated the firmware by my laptop connected to the router by ethernet cable. That worked, again, for about a week. Then the disconnects started again. Called tech support, again. This time, they had me change a bunch of settings and asked me to call back if I had more problems. A few days and a few disconnects later, I was back on the phone. This time, they had me disable all of the high performance stuff, the 5 GHz band, crank down the throughput, etc. I was thinking, "Ok, if this actually works, you are getting this router back anyhow, because I'm not gonna pay $200 for a router that only works if it's gimped out". Nonetheless, it didn't work. A few days and a few disconnects later, I was back on the phone, again. This time, I told them firmly, "Look, this is my 4th call to you guys. I'm not going to spend another hour tweaking settings and another week dealing with disconnects. You need to send me a new router and if that one does the same thing, you need to give me a refund so I can find a router that actually works." They (Netgear) sent me a new router. I had to pay for the shipping, which irritated me, but whatever. At first, it did the exact same thing. I took 10 deep breaths, and decided to try updating the firmware before going all nuclear and such. 2 months later and I am disconnect free. All settings are at factory default, firmware is up to date and not a single disconnect that I can attribute to the router. So, moral of the story. Looks like a pretty high percentage of their routers ship with bad chips or something. Try updating the firmware. If that doesn't work, call them and tell them you need a new router. Worked for me anyhow. Other than the pita I had to go through to get a good router, I love it. It's fast. Range on the 2.4 is outstanding. It doesn't disconnect me at all. That's all I really wanted out of an above average priced router to begin with. Guess maybe I should do 2 reviews, a 5 star for the router that worked and a 1 star for the one that didn't.

Frequent Disconnects (cont.)

Jabra M5390 Multiuse Headset with Bluetooth Base and Adapter

Pros: None

Cons: Frequent Disconnects

Overall Review: I forgot to mention in the previous review that I returned the first one I got to Newegg and got a replacement that did the exact same thing. Newegg was awesome and gave me my money back after I returned the 2nd one. I'm now waiting on a Plantronics CS55 that an acquaintance told me was awesome. She works for the local water company and is on the phone all day and said she's never had a problem with it.

Frequent Disconnects

Jabra M5390 Multiuse Headset with Bluetooth Base and Adapter
Jabra M5390 Multiuse Headset with Bluetooth Base and Adapter

Pros: Comfortable

Cons: Frequent Disconnects

Overall Review: I bought one of these headsets for my wife. She used it for a couple days in the office but quit using it because at least once a day it would disconnect itself from the base, usually in the middle of a phone call! Note that she wasn't walking around or anything. Every time it disconnected her she was sitting at her desk with her head less than 3 feet from the base. Tech support was no help, they just told me to re-pair the headset with the base, which doesn't help much because reconnecting the headset was no problem. The problem was that it wouldn't STAY connected. If you don't mind hanging up on someone at least once a day, this is the headset for you! If you would rather not be hanging up on important clients, then stay well away from this piece of garbage.

Pros: Very good gaming keyboard. Gaming keys are set up nicely.

Cons: It's like learning how to type all over again. It took awhile, but once I got used to it, I love it. However, the dang thing just died :(. Keyboard just completely stopped working. Computer won't even recognize it while booting up. Hope the next one lasts longer than a month.

Sata Raid Problem

BIOSTAR NF325-A7 754 NVIDIA nForce3 250 ATX AMD Motherboard
BIOSTAR NF325-A7 754 NVIDIA nForce3 250 ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Cheap, good bios, would make a good frisbee!

Cons: Terrible support, flawed raid drivers (nvidia problem, not necessarily Biostar). Would have rated it higher, but honestly it's nothing to write home about. The manual is the worst I've ever gotten with a mobo. The web site isn't that good. Better options out there IMHO...

Overall Review: Everything was going ok until I tried to set up the SATA Raid 0 option with 2 80 gig WD Caviar SATA drives. First off, the manual has absolutely no info about the Raid setup (or much else, for that matter). Then, after I finally remembered about the whole F6 and installing Raid drivers on a floppy, W2K install wouldn't see the whole array, only each drive separately. Biostar website had nothing on the subject. Finally found an answer here: http://www.epox.cn/downloadfile/ftp/W2k_Marphing_step_by_step.pdf Thanks to the internet, no thanks to Biostar. Oh, and mobo came with IDE cables, but no SATA cables .... bah!
