Fantastic Monitor

SAMSUNG S22C650D Matte Black 21.5" Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 1,000,000:1 (1000:1)
SAMSUNG S22C650D Matte Black 21.5" Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 1,000,000:1 (1000:1)

Pros: Awesome image quality, rich colors, great response time for an IPS (PLS) monitor, super clean design, tons of adjustability, easy-to-use OSD, DisplayPort

Cons: None

Overall Review: I am extremely happy with this monitor, and I think it's the absolute best one for the price. I initially ordered a 23" Asus 1080p, but I was really disappointed with the color quality and contrast. Next to my MacBook Pro, the Asus looked awful, and at 23"the pixel density was just a little too low for me. I decided on this business monitor mainly because it had a DisplayPort and the design and stand looked MUCH better than the consumer models. It was the right choice. Now I can just use a single Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable instead of a bulky HDMI or DVI adapter, and the stand offers every adjustment possible. Colors are vivid, contrast and brightness are great, and since it is 21.5", it doesn't feel like I'm looking through a screen door like it does on the larger 1080p displays. All in all, great monitor.

Wait for the price to come down

SAMSUNG 470 Series 2.5" 256GB SATA II Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-5PA256/US
SAMSUNG 470 Series 2.5" 256GB SATA II Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-5PA256/US

Pros: Extremely fast, completely silent, no vibration

Cons: Expensive, mild real world performance gains

Overall Review: I went from a 7200rpm scorpio black to this in my macbook pro. Login and programs launch noticeably faster, but in my opinion, the performance increase does not justify the space you sacrifice, or the price it currently commands. Definitely get a SSD, just wait a few months for the price to come down.

Watch out with newer processors

ASUS M3N78-EM AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 8300 HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
ASUS M3N78-EM AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 8300 HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Plenty of connections, HDMI, good integrated graphics, easy install, good documentation, great tech support from Asus.

Cons: Over volts Athlon X2 7750, northbridge gets mighty toasty, limited overclock/voltage control, make sure to see ram support list for DDR2-1066

Overall Review: This motherboard even with bios revision 502 over volts the Athlon X2 7750. On the stock heat sync with Arctic Silver 5, core temps were at 55C idle 59C load. This is because the motherboard was supplying it with 1.39-1.40 volts when AMD specifies 1.2-1.325. Called up Asus and was surprised to speak to someone in the US. Problem seemed to be a bios bug and he sent me a form to report it to R&D. Since i dont have time to wait for a new bios, I returned the proc and got a Phenom 8650 instead. Newegg is fabulous as always.

Great iPod Alternative

Microsoft Zune 3" Black 30GB MP3 / MP4 Player JS8-00001
Microsoft Zune 3" Black 30GB MP3 / MP4 Player JS8-00001

Pros: Large beautiful screen, easy to use, great finish, excellent packaging and build quality, interface is well thought out and visually appealing

Cons: No DivX support (yet), wireless is meh, only available in 30Gb, included headphones need to be replaced

Overall Review: The Zune is in my opinion the best competitor for the iPod. It is extremely easy to use and you may be tempted to leave the backlight on all the time for the great looking interface with no shortage of album art. It plays WMV nicely but has no current support for DivX. The finish on the player feels great and does not scratch or fingerprint easily. The included headphones are terrible but do have a cool magnetic feature that keeps them together when not in use. For now the wireless has no point, but that may change with firmware updates. Finally the Zune works amazingly with the Xbox 360. You can play all your music and videos through your TV and home stereo with great sound.
