Getting Great Temperatures
Pros: -fan and heatsink constructed with quality materials. -not loud -installed on a EVGA Z68 F.T.W. motherboard with a i5-2500K. getting these temps so far when idle: IDLE core 0: 29C IDLE core 1: 25C IDLE core 2: 30C IDLE core 3: 27C under a stress test load: core 0: 55C core 1: 58C core 2: 61C core 3: 57C
Cons: Installation instructions were hard to understand.
Overall Review: Didn't take notet when I purchased it that the fan connector was 3-pin; my motherboard has 4-pin fan connectors but this turned out not to be a problem as the 4-pin connectors on my motherboard have a tiny notch that allow the 3-pin connectors to be compatible.
EVGA GTX 580 3GB
Pros: Running good. Idle gpu temp is around 43C with the fan at 40%. Seen it go up to 63C with the fan at 70% when playing in my games. My software allows the fan to increase with the core temp.
Cons: expensive. also - im using driver 290.53 dated 21-DEC-2011 (most current availiabe as of 26-JAN-2012) and that driver has stopped responding twice when I was playing World of Warcraft. There was no crash, WoW just minimized to my desktop, then after a minute the driver recovered and the game was working.
Overall Review: When I needed to ask EVGA a question, I was live with there rep after being on the phone for about 2 minutes, which is incredible fast, and they knew exactly how to help me.
Samsung = QUALITY
Pros: -Very fast -Windows Index hard drive rating 7.5 -NO crashes -NO blue screens -perfect performance
Cons: price is NOT really a con after I read about other hard drives who fail so often.
Overall Review: did lots of research, decided that samsung hard drives have a far less failure rate than any other brand I looked at
i5-2500 power
Pros: Installed on an EVGA Z68 F.T.W. motherboard for two weeks now. Used a Cooler Master Hyper N520 cput fan. Not a single crash/blue screen or anything else negative. TEMPS AT IDLE: CORE 0: 28C CORE 1: 29C CORE 2: 31C CORE 3: 28C TEMPS UNDER A STRESS TEST LOAD: CORE 0: 58C CORE 1: 60C CORE 2: 62C CORE 3: 59C
Cons: I did not use the stock heatsink/fan but purchased a better one.
Overall Review: My core 2 runs a tiny bit hotter than the other 3 cores, but probably cause I didnt get a good amount of thermal grease over that core. (this was the first time I have ever installed a cpu heatsink fan)
SOLID
Pros: 1) outstanding quality 2) reliable 3) fast - getting 150 MB/s write on an external enclosure 4) i wanted to get the 7200rpm versions, but these 5400s are so much faster than i ever though. i love Samsung now.
Cons: 1) none
Overall Review: I got 5 of these and they all are working great. I formatted they with 64k allocation clusters instead of the default size, and that is really helping the read/write speeds
for home storage
Pros: 1) good materials/construction 2) installed smoothly 3) great speeds My configuration: I have five, 2TB Samsungs (5400rpm) inside, set to RAID5. I mostly get a FAST 150 MB/s write speed connected with eSATA (even with the slow 5400 hard drives). This TR5UT came with an eSATA card, but I haven’t used it, just hooked it into the eSATA that was already on the back of my computer.
Cons: has hot-spare, but not hot-swappable. really not a con for me since im storing large movies, tv shows in RAID5 for some fault tolerance.
Overall Review: I have NO IDEA what newegg.com was thinking when they shipped this. The product packing was fine, but the way that newegg shipped it was to put the shipping stickers right onto the PRODUCT BOX! They didn’t put it into a separate box. WHY!?! So 5 stars for this sans digital tower and ZERO stars for newegg. remember to format your drives allocation cluster sizes at 64K and not the default size to get those FAST speeds on large drives.
