The free version gives you a higher limit on RAMDISK size when you have AMD memory. The paid version doesn't care what memory you have. I have the paid version and
 32GB of GSKILL memory and it has no problems creating 16GB (or larger) RAMDISKs.

The software allocates physical ram on the computer and uses it as a hard drive it you want to use the full 64gb ramdisk you would need 64gb + enough for the operating system. The major requirement would be a 64bit operating system because 32bit can only allocate up to 4GB of ram so it would be a waist to get the 64gb version of ram disk. If you want to try the program Ibbelieve they have a free version that allows you to use up to 2gb of ram to create a ram disk

This is NOT physical hardware, it is a software package that allows you to turn extra RAM capacity into virtual disc space. There are options like retaining the files after shutdown but this will mean that whatever is on the RAMdisk will need to first be copied to your hard drive before shutdown. Also, upon bootup, the data will have to then be transferred from your hard back onto the RAM. There are some other options with this software as well, but be advised, I don't believe it's possible to run a bootable windows off of this since this program requires windows to install. I believe one you setup a RAMdisk you can format the disk via any format, though I'm not positive.

Can you boot from a ramdisk?

No you can not, sorry. A RAM drive allocates a block RAM (random access memory, those sticks in your computer, you may have 4, 8, 12, 16, 32 GB) to host a disk image that you can manage as any other logical disk in your system. Note the exception is that it is only resident when the computer is on and after the RAM drive host application/service has allocated the RAM memory and provisioned the assigned disk image into memory. If your computer turns off the RAM drive is no longer resident because it exists in RAM. Think of RAM as short term memory and HD/SSD as long term memory.

yes it will work ; i have G,SKILL 16GB X 4 STICKS@1866MHZ
my only hold back is my motherboard it only supports 16gb
of memory (ASUS M4A89GTD PRO USB3).
IT TAKE 6GB FROM THE MEMORY FOR ME TO USE AND IT  WORKS

Is this ramdisk a pci-e chipset . If not what is it and could I put it in a Lenovo M58 upright desktop ?

This is software developed by AMD to configure a section of your RAM as a "Virtual" hard disk.  Once configured you can install programs, apps, or other items on it as if it was your C:\.

Now there are a few caveats with using software RAMDisks.  While very fast they also are not permanent.  Meaning you would need to activate the software in order to use whatever was installed on the RAMDisk.

Secondly, this takes away from your available free RAM (memory).  So if your system has 4GB of RAM and you create a 2GB RAMDisk your PC will now only have 2GB of RAM to use until you turn off your RAMDisk.

I use this in my systems that have greater than 32GB of RAM.  This way I can create a 16GB RAMDisk and still have 16GB of RAM available for the PC.
