As the title sais, allows to install a slim ODD in a desktop build.
The 6in cable is great as it allows to put the bulky power SATA plug from the PSU were there is room.
Cons: As other reviewers have mentionned, the cables are stiffer than expected and are quite hard to bend, making it more difficult than it should be to put things in place.
Overall Review:
I used this to plug a slot load slim ODD in a Silverstone ML07 case as this is the only ODD format the case would accept. Using the short cordless adaptor would not have worked because the limited space around the back of the ODD, so the 6in cable is a life savior in this case.
Because of the stiff cable, my true rating would be 4 1/2 eggs out of 5.
Pros: I used this to mount a dvd drive in a micro-htpc Lian Li case. The case has a mount for slim, slot-loading optical drive. Not being knowledgeable about these drives, I ordered a SATA drive at random, and surprise, it had a slimline SATA fitting, something utterly new to me. After some squinting at various cables here at Newegg, I found one that looked like it matched the drive fitting. I ordered this cable, and it worked out perfectly. The 12 inch length is good for the small case, not too short or too long. The LP4 adapter matched my old power supply which has an LP4 cable. The quality is good.
Cons: No cons.
Overall Review: Yes, I would recommend this.

Cons: Came with incorrect bracket for low-profile installation. It's hard to believe that Startech would get this wrong, but they did. Low-profile brackets have the retaining screw on the side opposite that of standard height brackets. Others had complained about this issue as well, but when I looked at the product photo on the Newegg site, it had two rear-panel brackets. I received only one and, of course, it was not correct. I want the seller to send me the correct bracket.
Overall Review: No, I would NOT recommend this to others as it will not install properly.
Pros: I now have a CD/DVD burner, ripped from my dead laptop, in my mATX case that didn't come with a bay for an actual CD/DVD burner. Cheaper than buying an enclosure and stylish to boot!

Overall Review: They have this product without the 6-inch cable, just the adapter and I wish I had picked that up instead because the cords from the power supply for this are probably already long enough to reach so you'll end up just having and extra 6 inched of wire that are hard to tuck away to aesthetic purposes.

Overall Review: I purchased this for a Gaming Desktop which has no options for mounting a Optical Drive inside of it. I have a Optical Drive Enclosure that has ESATA Ports on it and this item completes the connection to my PC. However the SATA Ports inside my PC were too far away and the cables from this item and would not reach it, so I had no choice but to order 2 SATA Cable Extender Cables to complete the connection.
