It should pci-e- x16 are mechanically and electrically backwards compatible with x4 so you should have no problems.

Can both slots be used simultaneously or do you need to choose one or the other?

Yes, you can use both slots. However, one of them will go to the "NVME PCIe" side, and the other will go to the SATA side, and you will have to have a SATA cable to connect it to the computer.

Does this come with M.2 screws?

No. I wish it did. May I suggest you purchase an assortment of the micro-screws that computers use? It is an investment that you might find useful.

I imagine it would. A PCIe 2.0 x16 is on par with a PCIe 3.0 x8 in terms of speed. If you're using an NVMe SSD, you'll use the full bandwidth of the PCIe 2.0 x16. If you're using a SATA SSD with the M.2 format, you'll max out at half of this port's bandwidth.

It should. I haven't tried it in that card, but the speed will be dependent on the Pci-e speed of your motherboard bus. The Patriot 3.0x2 uses only 2 lanes, whereas the RIITOP supports 4 lanes. If your motherboard supports Pci-e 3.0x4, I would go with a hard drive that is also 3.0x4.

will this work with a MacPro, specifically the 5,1 models (2009-2012)?

I can't get it to work on my Win 10 gaming PC. BIOS doesn't see it..

Is this adapter backward compatible with a PCIe 2.0 speed motherboard?

Hello, Yes it will work on a PCIe 2.0 slot but keep in mind that due to the slot's lower bandwidth that card may not perform as fast as it would on PCIe 3.0, hope this helps! Newegg Support
