Specs state that it works with the Samsung 960EVO.  Does it also work with the 970EVO?

Yes! My 970 works great! I left the aluminum housing off as it kept over Heating but other than that this is perfect.

Can you use this to clone from an existing M.2 boot drive in the MB's M.2 slot and then swap the newly cloned M.2 drive into the M.2 slot as the new boot drive?  I'm looking for a faster solution to get a larger M.2 drive cloned and working in a single M.2 slot motherboard.

Yes.  I have had the PCIe M.2 NVMe AHCI SSD to PCIE 3.0 16x Adapter Card from a previous install AND just ordered/received/installed the exact same Intel SSDPEKNW010T8X1 (you referenced) into this card.  No problems with the install and setup.  Used an available motherboard PCIe slot to plug both card and drive into.  After initial drive setup (formatting, volume label, etc.), the Intel 1 TB was recognized.   Just installed both units and have not had the time to do any detailed performance testing.  (NOTE:  My motherboard has two M.2 sockets and had planned to install this new drive into second M.2 slot.  However, wanted to answer the question so I installed the drive/card.  Will move it to M.2 slot on MB at a later date.)

Well I order this....its weight is like a steel engine block! With no support bracket...man the PCIe slot will be tested. Was going into a Asus X58 MB and only the small PCIe 2.0 slot is available. Can it possibly work and fit?

Does it use 16 channels? That seems more than the NVMe itslef can fill.

Technically, you could saw/cut or somehow remove the other sections and leave only the 4x so that it would fit a pcie 4x slot.

I have a evga Z97 Classified MOBO with a 4790K  I have a M.2 in a 4X 3.0 slot and it works but not at 16X speeds . Anyone try this in a Z97 Classy?

Although it may have a full 16x pin layout t's not a 16x card only a 4x. If you look carefully at the board there are only leads from the 4x pins the remaining pins are nulled.

Are you certain your m2 supports X16?  Not all m2 NVMe are equal.
