Will this work with this SSD: Intel 660p Series M.2 2280 512GB PCI-Express 3.0 x4 3D2 QLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SSDPEKNW512G8XT?

It should support it as a storage drive but not guaranteed.  For a boot drive depends on the BIOS of the motherboard.  Older boards like mine would not boot from this drive.

How do you install the standoff?  It looks like it's supposed to screw apart into two halves but mine isn't coming apart easily.

Robert, there are two screws holding the metal bracket to the printed circuit board. Be careful not to strip them.  I do not know why your bracket is not being released when you remove the screws. I am sorry if this does not help you.  I am at a loss for not understanding why the screws won't come out.

What is the capacitor for? Other similar items don't have it. Is that to allow the drive enough time to flush it's buffers in the event of an unexpected power loss?

That's possible, but the capacitor is only 220 microfarad which probably wouldn't keep the thing powered long enough. It also might just be there to smooth the power rail so it's less likely to glitch out when the drive needs a sudden gulp of power, or they may have added it so that it makes less radio interference (and therefore can pass an FCC test). Regardless, as far as I can tell it hasn't affected performance negatively or positively, whatever the intended point of it was.

I only have the following slots available, will this work? PCI Express x16 slot wired as x4, and a PCIe x1 slot. Sorry but the jargon is a mystery to me.

This adapter will work with your PCI Express x16 slot wired as x4, but it will not work with a PCIe x1 slot.

Is the LED bright / flashy? I have a dark and silent PC, wouldn't want to light it up too much.

The LED would be on the back of the PC. Also you could put some masking tape over it.

Does it work with WD Black SN750 M.2 SSD AND Mac Pro 2010?

The RIITOP NVMe PCIe Adapter does not support Mac Pro 2010 as it only supports PCIe-AHCI SSDs. It also requires motherboards with Intel 9 series (Z97, H97, Z170, X99) or higher version chipsets for M.2 PCIe-NVMe mode SSDs, which the Mac Pro 2010 does not have.

Will this work with a PCIE 2 slot? That's all I have available.

Yes, the RIITOP NVMe PCIe Adapter will work with a PCIe 2.0 slot. However, please note that if you add it to a PCIe 2.0 slot, the transfer speed will be 16Gbps.
