Pros: The machine is really nice looking. Removal of the back panel to get to the expansion slots is simple and just takes a few minutes. The machine is really quick on boot up, handles most instructions in a "click fast" manner. It is a chunk however it leaves the impression of a very solid well built machine.
Cons: Expansion is limited to specific series components, this information was not documented when the machines were released.
Overall Review: When I ordered the machine, every review indicated that the machine was blazing fast and had expandable memory and an extra slot for an SSD. In none of the reviews did it state that the SSD slots were not compatible with SATA SSDs. I ordered a spare Samsung Evo 500 gig SSD to add for applications to the machine. It did not show up when I installed it. Asus finally updated the manual that I had to go online to get, it indicated in the notes that the machine is only compatible with the M.2 2280 series SSDs. This was a disappointment. A compatibility matrix for memory and SSDs via ASUS would be nice.
Pros: -Cooling: lots of people complain about gaming on laptops resulting in house fires, this is not the case for this one. It remains comfortable to use on your lap for quite some time and if used on a desk will never experience the "hot keyboard" issue. In addition, the fans practically never come on unless you have been playing a demanding game (BF1 beta, Overwatch on certain maps, The Division, etc.) for an extended period of time and when they do come on you will almost never hear them over your headphones. They flow TONS of air and are extremely efficient. -Graphics: 980M is slightly slower than a desktop 970, but at 1080p with gsync still pulls 60 fps on high/ultra in every game I've played. 100+ fps constantly on medium in BF1 (FXAA on) and maintains 60-75 fps on ultra. Same thing with most other premium titles and it absolutely demolishes anything less. -Display: colors are beautiful and there is no crazy glare off anything thanks to the matte finishes. One of the best displays I've ever seen on a laptop. -SSD: the 256 GB NVMe is a monster. It is ridiculously fast and even with multiple things being opened at once on startup it never bogs. -Audio: NOT THE LAPTOP SPEAKERS, but if you plug in a good set of headphones or some external components the laptop does a SUPERB job with the sound quality. The built in eq is amazing and it is a night and day difference.
Cons: -Size: I know it's a gaming laptop, but the bezel is still rather thick and this lends itself to making the laptop even bigger than your average 17". IT WILL NOT FIT IN 17" RATED BAGS. It is a heavy beast, but still light all things considered (it does afterall replace a desktop) and pretty well balanced. Just be aware that it is not small in the least. -Keyboard: not a huge thing here, just wish we had gotten mechanical components prior to the g800vi. Feels a little "meh" for being a high end item, but is still on the upper end of the scale for laptops. Would have preferred orange vs. the red lighting. -Audio jacks/speakers: laptop speakers are laptop speakers, even on the g752. I agree that the audio jacks would have been better on the left side (at least for a right handed user) as they are a bit weird at first and take some getting used to. It is nice having all the plugs on one side, just not when it's the side your hand is on. -Software: bloatware galore, as is to be expected with most oems. Remove it all when you get it and never look back.
Overall Review: With the new pascal versions coming out, I wish that you could upgrade gpus on these but as far as I know that is not the case. It is a wonderful machine and with the new 1080 and 1070 versions coming out I can't see the reason to look anywhere else now unless you need something lighter (get a 1060 gl502). Hope to use this puppy for a good long time.
Pros: pros are as advertised, while a little big and bulky a good substitute for any desktop machine. I owned a ASUS g75vw before this module and I'm sure this wont be the last ASUS ROG I buy
Cons: None at the fault of the laptop.
Overall Review: Its important to note that some people have been reporting issues in regards to the keyboard not working, I ran into this issue. After spending some time with ASUS support I was about to file a RMA to have it services (shame since I just got the unit). But it finally dawned on me that I had recently updated the BIOS via ASUS Live Update (updated to BIOS 214). So to see if that was the issue I ran WinFlash with a /nodate to revert back to BIOS version 205, and boom, the keyboard worked perfectly. So while the Laptop is working perfectly its important to note that software can be just as buggy as hardware. I still have a formal report filed with ASUS and will come back and update this review if I happen to run into any other issues.
Pros: I'm using this laptop for video editing and gaming. With a 6GB video card it is the fastest Laptop I've ever used! Not that much pre-loaded software on it-just deleted it anyway. It has the new USB 3.1/Thunderbolt connector on it which connects to my drives. Very fast! BF4 is playing very smoothly on it . I love the Asus gaming control software that comes with it. I don't understand the previous reviewer about spam-ware. Not much on it. 24gb of ram is great!. The machine does not run that hot. It's very well cooled. I've been running it for 2 days straight now and no problems. It's also a great looking machine. Silver and grey with a 17 inch matte screen is very easy on the eyes. I looked at the Macbook Pro-but only a 15 inch screen and 2 gig card in it. Very few machines can match this one in speed and looks. I'm very happy!
Cons: It came with Mcaffe antivirus software on it. The firewall seem to want to block my program downloads. I had to delete it in order to download my adobe software--not a big deal
Overall Review: Again, With the new Thunderbolt 3/USB 3.1 connector this is one of the fastest laptops out there. With a 6 gig GFX card it's faster than most desktops!
Pros: Super fast boot up, super fast in any task. amazing G-sync, nice little app for monitoring gpu and cpu performance and heat. Played wow at ultra 60+ frames, played GW2 at high 60+ (a little lower around 40-50 in cities) TF2.. well you know. pretty easy to run it on a low end computer, so it did amazing on this thing. The GPU is the equivalent to a gtx960 desktop version The thing stays nice and perfect most of the time with gpu and cpu reaching from 32C on standby or regular online activities to 42-52C so the thing is nice and comfortable on your lap looks beautiful
Cons: The speakers on the laptop sound really weird if you haven't updated the BIOS and without updating the BIOS the geforce experince app to update your GPU won't work. so if someones new to the whole PC thing it can be interpreted as DOA (dead on arrival) and sent back to newegg, so they're basically sending back a perfectly good laptop. the edge below the keyboard is a little too edgy, that could be softened or rounded a little better. the audio jack is on the right side of the laptop, so if you use a wired headset the wires can get in the way of the mouse. 3-4 hour battery life. I'm not sure if this is a battery technology limitation but yeah, make sure to plug it in every now and again
Overall Review: I would definitely recommend this laptop to anyone who wants a really nice smooth running game buffing laptop. It's really BIG despite how it looks in the picture, so make sure you have a big laptop bag... mine definitely didn't fit into my bag.
Pros: a very fast and amazing machine I use it to edit video's and play games and it hols up!! the fans really keep the system cool and its also truly a beautiful looking laptop for those who have never see it in person.
Cons: so gonna give this 4 stars because where you rest your wrist it actually cuts into your wrist even though its rubber its thick and edged this is a very bad design!!! so watch out how high you sit!!! they should of made a rounded design in this area I have also seen other reviewers mention this problem.
Pros: 1. This is purely opinion but i love the new look. 2. Runs pretty much anything you throw at it with ease. 3. Absolutely fantastic screen. 4. Not a bad price for what you get.
Cons: Had this ordered on black friday. It arrived with a speck of dead pixels in the middle of the screen. I was disappointed but hey it happens i guess. I re ordered another and when it arrived the top of the IPS panel wasnt shut and sealed. It was open. I was frustrated but i was able to snap and seal the two panels like its supposed to be. But really? Okay so getting past that after playing it for a few weeks i noticed in some instances playing games off the charger the refresh rate starts slowing down. And the panel starts flashing noticeably. Not getting enough power to power the screen but it only last a few minutes. This used to happen to my girlfriends desktop monitor. Lastly, the red lighting on the buttons...why? It has a silver copper theme now. Orange lighting yet they used the same Asus red lit keyboard. It throws off the theme. It should have been the same orange color as the glowing back.
Overall Review: Overall if you are interested in a affordable yet well built designed laptop with 970m graphics its worth spending the money on this Asus. You wont regret it.
Pros: *Eye-catching design. *Awesome G-Sync Display. *Runs almost all games on ULTRA with 75fps, *Great upgrade from my old G75VW. *Nice speakers sound.
Cons: *Right key on keyboard gets a little stuck. *Sometimes if I turn on the laptop without the power cord and then plug in the power cord, I still get poor FPS performance, need to reboot it with the power cord already connected to get normal FPS. *128GB PCI-E SSD is insufficient.
Overall Review: Even with a few bugs, I love this laptop and has exceeded my expectations!
