Beast of a Laptop 4/15/2019 7:52:16 AM

Pros: I'm not going to leave to much info on this part of the review. If you're looking at the $4k model you know what you're getting and you know its going to preform really well. It really does handle everything you throw at it. I have not been disappointed with it's performance, it is a desktop replacement laptop after all.

Cons: What I might list as a con:

-It gets hot (no duh) if you get this laptop expect it to produce alot of heat. Get a cooling pad for underneath it or something to at least raise it up a little.

-Two power supplies/bricks. This is kind of a con kind of not....Understanding this has a desktop level RTX 2080 in it you kind of expect it to need this. But sometimes it can be a hassle looking for two outlets to run a laptop.

-Screen Bezel.. The screen bezel is big....and kinda cheap looking. For how elegant and well rounded the rest of the laptop looks, the bezel around the screen is made of a textured plastic that doesn't really match the rest of the laptop. It also had one of those advertisement stickers on it(like what you get on most monitors) telling you about the screen itself. When removing this sticker it left residue of the adhesive used on the sticker and kinda deformed the plastic bezel on the bottom of the screen....Very annoying, these stickers are pointless IMO and should be left off of Laptops.....

Overall Review: A few things Ive seen in other reviews that I dont think are deal breakers....

-The light bleed is minimal. Now you're thinking for $4k you should have to deal with this, then maybe you wont like this laptop. However for me it wasn't that bad and with a little adjustment its not really noticeable. Your screen has to be pitch black 90% of the time for you to really notice it.

-Battery Life, On a laptop like this you're not going to be gaming on the battery....that would be silly. But for light internet browsing/watching YouTube I can get 2.5-3 hours on the battery. That's not terribly bad if I had to real honest for this laptop. Most reviews say in balanced mode you will get about 1 hour...Im not sure where this is coming from. Im going to guess the sample products the professional reviewers had have been through alot of power cycles...so maybe as it ages.

-Finding a Laptop bag, This laptop is BIG. Yes its 17.3", but is also 2"~ thick. So if you are looking for a bag for this laptop I would highly recommend buying one specifically designed for this laptop or going to a Physical Electronics Store and trying bags till you find one that actually fits. Not all 17.3" Laptop bags will actually fit this thing and the peripherals you might want to carry with it., especially the 2 Power Supplies. I went through 3 laptop bags before I got smart and actually took the laptop to Physical Electronics Store and fit it to a bag...And the bag I still wouldn't recommend as it barely fits in that. So be aware this thing is big.

In conclusion:
-Would I recommend this laptop? Yes, if you have the money it is a beast. It preforms better that my desktop.
You could get cheaper options that perform really well or really close to this but I had the extra $ so I went all out and this. I have not been disappointed with. Even with the cons stated above I would still get this laptop.

Horrible Expereince 4/9/2019 8:48:24 AM

Pros: The pros are not because of Asus but the components inside. The laptop has a great GPU, SSD storage space is plenty at 1.5TB, 32GB of RAM could be 64GB for the price I paid. Only reason why the laptop gets an egg.

Cons: Sent the laptop in because the backlight died on the LCD March 18th. The shipping they provided was ground which took three days to get to the "service" center March 21st. March 26th the RMA status changed to waiting on parts. By this time I already expressed my dissatisfaction with the "service" received at least twice. Zero communication except for a CL agent (Cutomer Loyalty?) that saw my original review on this site. Unfortunately that added to my frustration since nobody seemed to to know what anyone else was doing. April 2nd they sent an email that the parts would take longer to get in so they will swap my unit with another if I approve. I said yes to that offer just to get the whole experience behind me. Early the following morning I get another email that if I answer yes to they will even upgrade my replacement model and included the specs of both units side by side. The "upgraded" model had the same exact specifications and components as mine! I didn't care but they obviously do not know what is going on by offering me an upgrade to the same model as the one I sent. I replied again to just swap it out and send asap. Early the next morning I get another email saying I agreed to the "upgrade" and the replacement will be sent out in 7 business days unless the parts for my original laptop arrived before then. At this point, the service has been horrible and they still find ways to make it worse. I email back to ship the replacement back that day or to send my unfixed laptop back if they were unable to. I received a call from a supervisor April 4th who asks if they can make it right by sending the replacement as soon as the service center was done testing the unit. I ask how long it will take and what was so hard about replacing an LCD with a dead backlight. I also ask why the service center has to test a new laptop and was told "Well sometimes people receive items and they are DOA", I ask how long it will take for them to "test" and was told they are working as fast as they can. I was also told the service center made two attempts to repair and neither worked. So to that, I question their ability or honesty or both. I was also told I would be called each day until the issue was resolved. I received a call on April 5th and that is the last call I have received. No change in RMA status and no replacement unit sent 23 days in to the process. I have repaired many out of warranty devices with bad backlights and never once ordered the wrong part or misdiagnosed a dark screen which is identical to what my laptop had. I have 15 yrs experience in IT but by no means am a repair technician.

Overall Review: I would never recommend anything Asus to anyone. Their support is anything but support and the service is anything but service. Avoid this company. Do your homework and research online and see this is not the exception but the rule when you need support. There are posts on ROG forum of some people going 6 months with no device and people on 3 and 4 RMAs with the returned device in worse shape when received back.
