Hi. I plan on building a PC with 16GB memory, Nvidia GTX 780i GPU and an Intel i7-4820k 3.7GHz quad processor, in a full tower case with a SSD, HD and a blu-ray drive. Maybe I will use the 4930k hex processor though.

My question: You think this Rosewill Capstone-750-M 750W 80 Plus Gold power supply is good enough, or do I need to get a 1000W?

I bought this power supply last year for as a replacement for an older PC and would like it use it for my new computer if possible and save the $200 cost of a gold 1000W power supply and apply it to the "i" for the GTX 780i graphics card.

I have a separate question -- why is Dell building similar specs for a PC with a 330W generic power supply for its Alienware brand? That low power-supply made me nervous and is driving me to build my own because what other corners are they cutting, I wonder.

This power supply will be walking the border of making your machine unstable, and the 1000w power supply will be much better. If you would like to not drop the 200$ for one at the moment, you can use the newegg preferred option which gives you 6months interest free to payback. However, you must pay the amount back within 6 months or you will be screwed over with 25%+ interest. And the Alienware brand is not worth spending the money on. You pay for the brand name, not quality hardware. They can sell anything they want at any price and gullible people will still buy it because they associate it with high-end gaming etc. You are much better off purchasing your own hardware and putting it together on your own.

Question 2

Should the fan be mounted facing up or down? I have a Cooler Master Haf 912, if the makes a difference. Thanks in advanced!

I have mine mounted down and to be honest it's more personal preference than anything there are good and bad points to both sides but if you do mount it down I suggest getting a filter so it doesn't pull in dust into the psu.

Question 4

I have a Dell OptiPlx 990 Mini-Tower that PSU is going out.  Would this be a suitable replacement if I was looking to beef up the machine with a new PSU & Graphics card?

You need to check if the power supply will fit in to your computer case...  Mini tower case usually are very small and won't fit this type of power supply.  As long as this fit in to your computer case I don't see any reason why it won't work for you...  You should also consider graphic card size as well...  they can also be quite large...  If you really want to upgrade your system consider buying a mid tower computer case (you can find good quality case for about $40 on sale) and migrate your system to it...

how is it with i5 and i7 processors?

This is a 750W PS you should have no issue with the micro. What you really need to check out is how more hardware you will connect i.e. Video Cards, HDD, Drivers, etc. Overall, this PS meet the required by most users.

Question 6

Where can I buy additional SATA power cables? I can't seem to find them on Newegg or Rosewill's website. I have an HDD, SSD and Optical Drive and the item only included 2 SATA power cables. My first build... am I doing something wrong?

Mine came with 4 if I remember correctly.  I have 2 hard drives and an optical drive with one extra sata cable, and I may have had even more that I didn't install and just left in the box.  I would contact Rosewill and see if they can send you some out of warranty or something of the like.

I have a roswell capstone 750 gold Power supply for my computer I am looking to replace my graphics card with a Geforce RTX 2070 Super is this power supply good enough?   Also Do I need to purchase additional power cables to attach to the PSU and graphics card as it states it takes 1 6 pin and 1 eight pin power cord connector?

Yes! In fact, you could probably run 2 of that same GPU and won't need any sort of adapter. This depends on your other components, but a 2070 super would be no problem.

Question 8

PC is overheating and trying to figure out if my powersupply is the cause. It is warm to the touch, and I notice that there is no noticeable airflow coming out of the back of the powersupply is that normal?

No, it's not normal. The power supply could be warm, but the fan should be working. Make sure you realize on this unit the fan is on top and not out the back. You want it up and the back pulling it out. See if flow is coming out on top, don't worry about the back.

If the supply is 'hot' then yes, you have a problem. 'Warm', eh.

Overheating SO many times can be your CPU. Feel your processor, see if the heatsink is hot. You also 'need' to replace the thermal paste between the CPU and sink every once in a while (2 years or so, unless you're a total techie). Your CPU or your Game Card are the usual suspects to check first.

I'm getting the r9 290x is the 650 power supply enough to run. The card with no problems or should I get the 750?

Can anyone clarify the length/depth? Says 6.69in here but 6.42.

L 6 1/2" X H 3 3/8" x W 5 7/8" If you want it in mm's you will have to convert it yourself.
