James here in Ok. power is fairly erratic ,ie thunder storms , etc on my "E" mahine  computer use no U.P.S at all. Never had a problem with computer losing info. But to answer you question on a purely electronic level , surges, sags, and spikes are very , very common on U. S power lines , so unless you have a very " clean" source of electric power, or are working for NASA I would not be to concern about it., Ernest
