Rosewill RC-400 Networking LAN Card With Heatsink & 4 LED indicators 10/ 100/ 1000Mbps PCI V2.2, 32/64-bit, 33/66MHz

Pros: Good price. Came with full height bracket attached and a half-height bracket included along with a cd/w drivers for many devices. The heat sink was included but not attached, but it was an easy job to attach it. imho, every chip that gets more than just a bit warm should have a heat sink, so I like this feature. The card installed w/o a hitch and the Win xp found the driver on the enclosed cd.

Cons: I turned on jumbo frames to the max setting (7k) for my first real use. The pc re-booted itself at approximately 2/3 into copying a 12gb file, which is approximately very close to the same point two other reviews noted a computer hang. I turned off jumbo frames and was successfully able to copy the file. I then successfully copied a 15gb file. I intend to try to do some more testing with different jumbo frame settings and try this in another computer to see if the reboot is repeatable on a different box.

Overall Review: To make sure my reboot wasn't due to a dated driver on the cd, I checked the driver version against the latest downloaded from their site and it is the same. I'm a self-employed programmer and do most of my work within virtual pc's, typically 12-20 gb each - a different one for each client, and I have numerous virtual pc's for some to test different OS and applicaiton combinations with my code. Frequent (and sccessful!) backups of these files are very important to my work. For someone who just wants to add gb ethernet to a pc for moving the occasional large file, than this card is a decent choice, but I cannot recommend it for someone who needs reliable, regular transfers of large files. This card will end up on my least used desktop and I will purchase a higher end card for my backup/file/media server. I've been happy with the other Rosewill products I've tried and will continue to consider them in my future purchases.

Pros: Cheap gigabit card. has a heat sink. I bought it for my NAS server.

Cons: Gets REALLY hot during extended file transfers. Excessive heat causes it to crash the network card- it wont work again untill reboot.

Overall Review: I'm going to buy two pci exhaust fans to put on either side of this card to try and keep it cool. If you are just trying to upgrade a 10/100 system to gigabit for occasional file transfers, this is a great card, but it needs to stay really cool for constant use.

Pros: Inexpensive, RealTek Chipset, Linux Support, Low Profile Adapter for Servers, Full Duplex on 10-100 and Gigabit. Install on Windows was uneventful and I took the advice from another reviewer and obtained a newer driver from Rosewill website rather than installing the driver from the CD. Install for Fedora 5 was also uneventful.

Cons: Poor Factory Packaging, Unusually low thru-put for this chipset. I have two and in Windows and Linux they both display about 15% lower thru-put than other gigabit cards with this chipset I have.

Overall Review: Even though this card displays lower than average thru-put, it is still a major upgrade from 10-100. One ofMine arrived with the shield bent due to poor factory packaging, but a few seconds to bend it straight again was good enough. Other realtek chipset gigabit adapters I have display about 15% greater thru-put than this one does, so I can't give it 5 eggs. I have to wonder if there is a design flaw in the PCB. NewEgg as always provided good service, but UPS has yet to get anything to me in the "3 day guaruntee". Making UPS their primary shipper was not their best move. - Overall, this is a good product for the price, but if I had paid for upgraded shipping, it would not have been a value. If you are looking for an inexpensive gigabit card while upgrading your network, this is a good choice. If the fact that it can't acheive perfect thru-put will bother you, spend a little more. I will be purchasing a couple more for the last machines on my network that still have 10-100 cards

Pros: Installed 2 in 2008 R2 server and bonded them. Works great with VLAN 802.1q tagging and multiple VLAN management. MUST install heat-sync when bonding. They get HOT! Installed 1 in Win7/Ubuntu test machine. Not-so-hot-there! would still use heat-sync though. Runs like a champ. Really surprised me on how fast the OS's detected and installed driver. Didn't need to use driver disk, but glad it came with one.

Cons: IPv4 overhead packaging takes .000246 longer to generate than other similar Intel server cards, but acceptable.

Overall Review: IPv6 support and VSL makes up for this. I can tel that this card was made for IPv6. Blows other similar cards out of the water when it comes to IPv6. Worth the investment if your looking for a 1000 replacement or upgrade chard.

Pros: Supports jumbo frames. Great upgrade for older machines without PCI-E.

Cons: Only supports up to 7200-byte jumbo frame mode.

Overall Review: I bought this to upgrade my HTPC from 10/100 onboard ethernet. Now I can stream 1080p video(without caching for long periods of time beforehand) to any machine in my house with gigabit ethernet.

Pros: Fast & Easy! Win7 detected the card and installed driver all by itself. Quick file transfer test (3GB file copy) showed 80MB/sec down and 55MB/sec up, with default settings and I don't even use jumbo packets. WoL worked with every computer I tested (some cards had WoL working in some computers and not in others). There even is a connector for those WoL cables for older motherboards (cable not included though, and they seem to be harder to find these days) and low profile bracket. This card has all you could need. Oh, and yeah, 4 LEDs is cool too :)

Overall Review: Although the manual doesn't mention how to apply the heatsink, it's quite obvious: peel and apply on the only chip that fits the heatsink size. The manual mentions heatsink is not required but I installed it anyway (I felt they included it for a reason) so I can't tell how hot it could get without it.

Pros: I bought 2 of these a while back. Installed one right away, and has been problem free. This morning the on-board NIC in another machine died. Grabbed my spare RC-400 from the shelf, installed it, disabled the on-board NIC, booted up and downloaded the latest drivers - Back in business.

Cons: Kind of like the idea of the extra heat sink, but don't have a clue as to which of the 2 chips it would mount on.

Overall Review: I just ordered another one of these to have on my spare parts shelf.

Pros: Using this in my server and it works like a charm. Transfers are around 80-100Mbps with my 8 port gigabit switch.

Cons: Cheap

Overall Review: Worth the money if you have a 100Mb/s onboard lan and you are looking for faster data transfers on your network if you are networked in to a gigabit device.
