Does this have a fan? I am looking for a silent fanless switch.

I dont hear anything when you turn it on. Not gong to say that it does not have a fan but i cant hear it. Great value worked like a champ.

Could this run off 12V power instead of using the adapter?

Most hubs and routers will work off any DC from 10.5v to 14v and don't care where it comes from...solar, car battery, etc. The AC adapter turns into 12 volts DC, btw.
