Question 1

Is this a good cooler to replace my stock fan for my intel i5 3470? For one I like about this cooler is that it looks like I do not need to install a back plate for intel cpus and I was hoping this cpu cooler would give me little better cooling than my stock cpu heatsink which I get 45-56c in idle and at stock temps and up to 75c when gaming. Is this heatsink worth it?

I installed this cooler on a AMD MoBo/Processor. I also didn't have any need for backplating. So If, your wanting advice from me, I would suggest looking for coolers specifically designed for your motherboard and processor.

Especially since I have never owned a MoBo with a stock Intel processer/cooler combo, or had the experience of replacing that combo.

I have read about some purchasers, attempting replacing their stock combo with one of many coolers offered by this catalog, only to be dissapointed be cause it DIDNT work for whatever reason(s), just don't take that chance with any system upgrade, GET FACTS 1ST.

Call or Chat with the newegg reps, the are experienced with this, and they will give you a good recommendation.

will this work on a asrock fm2a75 pro 4 motherboard?

I know the description states it will work with an AMD socket, but I wouldn't do it. The direction of the fan in an AMD board will only fit one way and that would be blowing upward to the top of the case at your PSU or onto the GPU. It should point toward the back of the case where your fan will remove the heat; it may work fine in a Intel motherboard, but IMHO don't get it for a AMD board. I bought one from Newegg and realized all this afterward. It's too costly to send the unit back to Newegg and they should only sell it as an Intel cooler.

not sure the only thing I can say is it is well made and has a good design.  if you are putting it in a tower and it shows that it fits your processor you should not have any problem.  the only modification I had to do was remove the air funnel inside my tower vent which with this cooler I don't need it anyway

I bought the Rosewill RCX-ZAIO-92 in 2014. It was barely adequate for my AMD system. I eventually went with liquid cooled ($59.99) CORSAIR Hydro Series H60 (CW-9060007-WW) High Performance Water / Liquid CPU Cooler. 120mm. I bought that from Newegg. That's 60 bucks for the ultimate cpu cooling technology and you can be certain your overclocking efforts are protected from heat issues.

If your MB is the either the BIOSTAR Hi-Fi A85W FM2 AMD A85X (Hudson D4) HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard OR the ECS A55F2-M3(1.0) FM2 AMD A55 (Hudson D2) HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard then I would suggest that you e-mail your question to the respective MB manufacturer(s) or expand your question to forum sites like "motherboard_dot_com". Those people could possibly answer your question.

My motherboard is not the same class as your MB because it is almost 3 years old.

I cannot give you an answer based on my judgement.

I bought this cooler because the stock Intel cooler for an older E8400 was running hot.  The cooler worked well.  A word of caution.  Make certain that the weight of the cooler is not too heavy for your board.

Absolutely. I've got two AMD FX systems running with this. I've got one octocore running in the teens and low 30s at idle and topping at 45-50c under long term loads. It can even take some over clocking, if that's your thing.

I would think so with room to spare. It's a midsize tower with plenty of room.

does this come with thermal compound already on, or in a pack?

The thermal compound comes as a separate, item. You then have the choice to spread the "gel" on the top of your processor and the bottom fan plate. If your not sure, you can also purchase thermal compound, which; if i'm not mistaken, is called "Quick Silver".
