I need a usb hub. Not sure of the difference between a 2.0 and 3.0?

There are a lot of technical differences between USB 2.0 and 3.0 but the most important to a consumer is that the 3.0 has a much faster transfer speed and a better power management system. The power management isn't really a factor for this hub since it is self-powered. The faster transfer speeds of the 3.0 are a nice bonus, but will only truly work with a USB 3.0 device (blue tip). 3.0 and 2.0 are always compatible with each other, but you will only get the increased speeds with a 3.0 port and device together. As I mostly use the hub for standard 2.0 flash drives and charging a few devices this hub has worked out perfectly for my needs, the 7 ports are awesome for the price.

Where do you plug in the power adapter and cable into the hub? Not shown.

Both the power adapter cable and the USB upstream to the computer are located on the back of the hub. BTW if you click on the first picture it gives you the option to spin the hub around so you can see the back of it.

The opposite side includes the power jack, the USB in port and one USB out port. Three USB out ports are hidden under the flexible dust cover on top.
