Does this unit dispense a cool or warm mist?

I don't think any humidifier puts out a warm mist. I will tell you this is the best humidifier I have ever owed. The black top that directs the mist is a dual so you can direct in two different directions. It shuts off by it's self when empty. It has saved me money this winter, we were able to decrease the heat as this will really help keep your house warmer. Anyway it is a cool mist. Hope this helps. I love mine.

is this for a medium room?

Can this unit use scented oils?

I used essential oils in my unit all last winter season with no issues. Worked great.  I do believe that doing so voids any warranty... I don't really care about that. The biggest issue I have found with humidifiers is taking the time to clean it daily, whether you use oils or not. This will help minimize or possibly prevent any unwanted buildup.

Can you turn the nightlight off?

No, but since led does not get hot, you can cover with black tape or paint. This is a very good humidifier, but led is too bright. I taped mine.
