No, it is not a metal case...however, just so you know, I think the product is just fine and have been using two of them for at least a year. They are an attempt to protect my TV and two of my three computer systems.

Does this work for 110v and 220v??

If you plug a unit designed for 110/120 into 2xx volts you will damage and possibly destroy the power strip itself, and can possibly short out the electrical circuit causing the breaker to trip.  If you are traveling in a 3rd world country (e.g. Phillipines) this can cause the entire circuit to blow - I've personally seen this happen.

I have my regular charger and cable plugged in and working fine. This should be directed to the manufacturer as you are proposing a product enhancement if i understand you correctly. Strictly speaking it should be possible for the manufacturer to do this going forward.

Please explain the 3-Line (L-N, L-G, N-G) and what it is designed to do?

In a 3-prong outlet you have a NEUTRAL (N) connection (long vertical blade), HOT or LINE (L) connection (short vertical blade) and GROUND (G) square hole with a rounded top below the two.

The LINE (HOT) delivers the electricity to your device, the NEUTRAL is the return path and the GROUND is a safety feature added.

In the main electrical panel, the NEUTRAL and GROUND are bonded together.

When surge protectors were first made available, an MOV (Metal Oxide Varistor) was placed across the LINE (L) and NEUTRAL (N) connections and this kind of protection was called SINGLE MODE. Some companies decided to add an MOV across the (L) to GROUND (G) connections and across the (N) to (G) connections and this became known as TRIPLE MODE protection. As a consumer reading the side panel or comparing surge protection devices and you see SINGLE MODE and TRIPLE MODE you immediately think TRIPLE MODE is better so you choose that device. Today, many (if not most) surge protectors offer TRIPLE MODE protection.

That said, there are some issues that are not well understood. MOV's work at a certain voltage level. The higher the voltage level the longer it takes for the MOV to work, and more surges can get passed the surge protector and into your electronics. There are many people that will advocate a value of 330V or 400V as being good because the MOV's will work sooner rather than later, BUT there is a problem with TRIPLE MODE protection and that is when the surge comes in on the HOT or LINE connection it will be sent to the NEUTRAL and GROUND connections hopefully evenly and at the same time. So a surge that is 1000 Volts in amplitude will be directed to both the NEUTRAL and the GROUND and for the duration of the surge both NEUTRAL and GROUND will be at 1000V.

Here's the problem:  GROUND is used as a reference by modern day electronics and wants to be at zero volts. When GROUND is at 1000 Volts, strange things happen:  HDMI ports can fail, Hard drives can crash & PSU's can fail.

Question 8

When I have any radio on in the house, there is a "buzzing", a static which lasts about 20 seconds and goes away; but it's continuing at that rate.  Drives me crazy.  Will this product "filter" the house electrical interference and prevent this?

I seriously doubt that this or any surge suppressor will address your problem.  Surge suppressors are made with internal devices like MOVs (Metal oxide varistors), voltage clamping suppression diodes and gas discharge tubes,  designed to clamp extreme voltage spikes often caused by lightning (usually clamping is designed for spikes over 330v).  They are not designed to filter Radio Frequency that ride on low frequency power lines. like residential wiring.

It sounds like to me you should be able to get your utility company involved if the RF is coming in on their wiring and effects every radio in the house.  Does this include battery operated radios too?

Yes, and it appears that the unit could be placed vertically or horizontally.  I will tell you that the unit is pretty hefty so make sure you secure it properly.

What's the dimensions for this surge protector?

It is approximately 10 inches in length (but the 2 coax connectors that stick out of one end and the unbendable portion of the AC cable at the other end will add another 1.5 inches).  The width is approximately 5 inches and it's about 1.5 inches thick.
