Is this the correct switch that can switch from a windows 7 to a windows 10 ?

No this is used for having two separate pc's and only one mouse and keyboard and you can switch between the two using this switch. If you are talking about upgrading from W7 to W10 that is the internal operating system and you have to do that using microsofts system or an install disk. If you want to have both W7 and W10 that takes an install of both of the operating systems and booting (starting) the pc with one or the other. Search google for exactly what you are trying to do and whether your pc can do what you want to do.

Question 2

Will this KVM switch support wireless keyboard and mouse between two computers?  This is what I would like to use it for. If not which KVM would you suggest please?

I have this kvm as well as the 4 port rosewill kvm and they both work with wireless keyboard and mice. (logitech)
There is no keyboard shortcut to change computers you have to use the button on the kvm which can be annoying. Also make sure the computers are close together the cables are only around 3 feet long.
Something to be aware of it can take a while to register the wireless keyboard and mouse sometimes.

is there an actual switch on this item or how do you switch from PC to Pc ?

There is an actual switch that you press to make the switch.  If you had a picture of the entire cable, you would see a little button switch... the cable to the switch is long enough to place on the computer desk or table you are using and when you want to switch between machines you just press the button.  It works great!

can i use this as a VGA USB ADAPTER, only ask because my video card is broken on both my desktops and eventually ill replace them but not just yet?

This has 2 VGA inputs with/cable  and one VGA out. Each input has one usb out. It has no audio capabilities and has a button on a very long wire to switch between computers.your usb keyboard and mouse can connect to the main device .

An adapter would work if you had a usb to VGA, then connected the adapter to the switch via VGA cable,  the switch draws power from whichever PC is on first connected via usb

Does this work with Windows 10?

YES !  using it now as I write this.  no issues with windows.   if you have any issues its not windows its the hardware.  Sometimes it takes a bit for windows to load the drivers depending on how you have driver installation setup.  But I have no issues with windows 10.

Question 6

Will this item work without using the monitor connections? I need a KM switch only (no video). I want to use a single keyboard/mouse and switch control between a desktop and a laptop - keeping the monitors separate.

(Some of the software-based solutions will not work because the computers are on two different networks.)

Yes, I use mine this way. In fact, I only use one USB port, and have both the keyboard and mouse plugged into a hub so that it's one less cable to "dock" my laptop. A usb soundcard would let you add audio to the switch in the same manner.

How do you switch between computers?

The KVM has a button that you push.  I taped my to my keyboard so I just push the button when I want to switch.  It is easily worth the money now that I don't need 2 keyboards and 2 mice.

does this plug into the printer so two desk top computers can use the same printer?

Yes, any USB device will work with this. You could plug a flash drive into it and switch it between 2 PCs if you wanted to.

Can a cordless mouse and keyboard be used with this?

Yes.  You can even use wired and wireless mixed.  I had both a wireless keyboard and a wireless mouse when I originally bought the device.  The wireless keyboard failed, and I substituted a wired keyboard. It works fine.

This question prompted me to take a look at the device, and I noticed that I had the mouse connected to the keyboard port on the switch, and the keyboard connected to the mouse port.  Still works fine!!

Is there something like this that can control 6 computers?

Yes. Search newegg for "KVM switch" and you'll find plenty of products with different numbers of ports. And don't forget to consider software remote control solutions such as TeamViewer or LogMeIn, or even just regular Windows Remote Desktop.
