Question 1

Are the Molex Connectors on this fan required for functionality and LED lights? Or can the 3 pin connector alone be used for both?

I tried plugging them in both ways 4-pin molex and 3 pin, They worked and light up both ways.

Also used a 3-pin voltage reducer to lower from 12v to 7v, which slowed the fan to about 1/2 speed and perfectly quiet with this. They also light up with the voltage reducer, just not a bright.

how dark is the blue color?

Its not very dark honestly. Pretty bright lights actually, if you have a case with a lot of mesh or a window it will be brighter. if its too bright for you, you can always cut one of the wires going to a light. That will also give the impression that the color is darker in hue as well.
 I would suggest colorless fans and separate installation of an rgb controller. So you can choose exactly what color and the brightness of the color.

Question 3

Would this splitter work with these fans? If not which one would?

Yes a splitter would work perfectly fine. That's actually exactly what I used. I connected the main head to the motherboard and split to the two fans.

Is it possible to change the fan speed? If so, how?

Yes you can but only in the computer. I use speedfan to control my fan speeds.

Question 5

How thick are these? My case, "Rosewill BLACKHAWK Gaming ATX Mid Tower: N82E16811147107" will only take a 18mm thick for behind the MOBO.

Would not fit behind the mother board. The rest of the fans do the job well.
