it looks like from the specs on the Apple site that there are four slots available up to a max memory of 32G.

Memory
8GB (two 4GB) of 1600MHz DDR3 memory; four SO-DIMM slots, user accessible
Configurable to 16GB or 32GB.

I take that to mean that each slot can have a max of a 8g stick in multiples of 2 (either 2 sticks or 4 sticks).  You usually want to make sure that you have the same capacity sticks in each slot.  Some systems are tolerant of different DIMM sizes, many are not.
