Pros: Good color, great stand.

Cons: Does NOT scale as advertised, not 1:1 mapping, does not scale aspect ratio to input source as advertised. Don't buy if you want to use with a 1080p device. Also arrived defective, what looks to be a smudge but isn't. Probably a back light defect of some sort. (not dead pixels)

Overall Review: New egg did not provide good support on trying to exchange this monitor for the above reasons, do NOT buy a monitor from newegg under the LCD return policy.

Pros: The picture is beautiful and sharp! The colors are vibrant and fairly accurate out of the box. No ghosting at all when playing WOW. The cabinet is simple but elegant. Keep in mind the CABINET is glossy, not the screen. The touch controls on the front panel are a nice touch which include input switching - thought that was really cool if you plan on using this for multiple devices. I ordered two of these and both came with zero dead pixels. I've actually never had a Samsung with dead pixels - part quality and part luck I'm sure. Samsung always packages their monitors well - this one includes a VGA and DVI cables, as well as audio.

Cons: These are more annoyances than anything else, but the inputs are not very strategically placed - they face straight down. The rotate function is cool I guess, but it is kind of annoying that it doesn't seem to lock in place horizontally after rotating it. The included calibration and rotation software is finicky with Vista32.

Overall Review: Besides the initial setup which was annoying for a lazy guy like me, the monitor rocks. I use it as a desktop gaming monitor and couldn't be happier with it.

Pros: Very sharp text, vibrant color, fast response time, contrast ratio, portrait mode, touch buttons, acceptable price, comes decently calibrated, WONDERFULLY ADJUSTABLE stand. The bezel is glossy and looks very nice in person. The monitor has a large, commanding and professional presence. The touch buttons are annoying for calibrating because you have to keep looking at them if you lose your place since there is no tactile response, but you only should have to calibrate once. After that it's personal, if you're like me you'll enjoy touching the nice glossy plastic to turn it on and off. Portrait mode is terrific for working with code, literature, and tall images. I've used this for long pages of Java code and pencil sketching tall images from the screen. Aesthetically, I find this monitor far more impressive looking than the 2008 Ultrasharp or Dell 3007. This is of course is very personal, but worth noting. I didn't realize how much I valued this quality until I saw this beauty.

Cons: Low color gamut for professional work, if you need a high degree of color accuracy for photo work then look elsewhere. Please understand that color ACCURACY doesn't mean good or bad colors, the color is still beautiful. However, since the monitor is not designed to reach the 80 and 90+ percentage of the color gamuts, it will not produce picture perfect accurate representations of photos. Viewing angle is something to consider. If you're going to have multiple persons watching from a wide angle they will suffer mildly distorted color and brightness. It's not nearly as bad as it used to be, but it's there. Vertical viewing angle on portrait mode also suffers, but by adjusting the stand properly it is hardly detectable. When watching films the black area on the top and bottom is brighter than some more expensive panels, but is only noticable if you're looking. Viewing angle also effects this. I find it acceptable.

Overall Review: I researched 24" monitors for over 7 months before I bought this. I payed $409 dollars and I consider the investment one of the best I've ever made. I upgraded from a beautiful 21" Dell Trinitron CRT and am in love with this thing. Primary uses are Gaming, Movies, and programming. My primary concerns of the 24"+ monitors were input lag, viewing angle, color accuracy. I realized color accuracy is completely irrelevant for my uses and practically undetectable. Viewing angle is taken care of by highly adjustable stand and there's hardly ever more than two people viewing at once anyway. I've not recieved any reports nor detected any input lag compared to my CRT. Oh, not to mention there were no dead pixels, as there rarely is. The 8 dead pixel policy from newegg is annoying, but dead pixels are relatively rare- that one is up to you. As far as the monitor goes, I highly recommend this.

Pros: Excellent picture quality. I use this monitor for gaming, and the quality is outstanding. Drastic improvement over my old 19" CRT that I should have replaced years ago. No dead pixels whatsoever, absolutely no hint of ghosting when gaming, and the lighting is perfectly even throughout the screen. For the price that newegg is offering this monitor, it's a no brainer. Right out of the box, the picture quality was perfect, although the brightness was a bit extreme, but the simple push of a button to change to a different preset brightness level took care of that. (Has multiple preset settings for various brightness depending on the application you are using it for, i.e. Internet, Gaming, etc.)

Cons: I waited far to long to finally order it!

Overall Review: I haven't bothered with the built in speakers so I can't comment on them, but everybody already knows not to expect much from them. I have been leary of replacing my CRT with an LCD considering I use it for gaming, but now that I finally took the plunge, I couldn't be happier. One thing to keep in mind if you're a gamer, running this monitor at it's native 1920x1200 resolution will put a hit on your video card if you normally run at a much lower resolution, so make sure your machine is up for the task! My fps on an 8600GTS dropped by nearly 30% when switching from 1024x768 on my old CRT to 1920x1200 on this piece of art. The menu buttons on the front of the monitor, as others have noted, are nearly impossible to see in a low lit room, but personally I kind of like that they are somewhat invisible, it gives the monitor a cleaner look... and honestly, it's not like you're constantly using them!

Pros: Great look. Very sleek. very bright, HUGE!!!!!! 1920 x 1200 is amazing. No dead pixels on mine. shipping was VERY fast.

Overall Review: Upgraded from a samsung syncmaster 226bw 22". Totally worth it. Great monitor. Always will use samsung.

Pros: 24", HDMI. Upgrading from a 17" CRT. Plenty of real estate. Xbox 360 looks great via HDMI. No dead pixels. Audio out with headphones is nice for quiet gaming.

Cons: The menu buttons are very hard to use in low light conditions. You just have to kind of guess where the source button is. You'll get used to it. Noticeable lag in halo and other first person shooters for 360.

Overall Review: A good upgrade for anyone looking for a new monitor. Spoil yourself and go 24", you wont regret it. Doubles as a very nice gaming mnonitor too, colors are great. Touch sensitive buttons. Not a big movie fanatic, have not watched any movies yet.

Pros: Crisp and bright, built in swivel and tilt-capable mount, veeeery pretty. No dead pixels. Great color reproduction.

Cons: As with any TN panel, poor viewing angles, but that's to be expected of any monitor in this price range. No 1:1 pixel mapping.

Overall Review: I knew of the 1:1 pixel mapping problem, but it deserves to be mentioned again. If you plan on hooking up a PS3 or 360 to this monitor, try the BenQ 2400W instead. Otherwise you'll end up with cropping or stretching.

Pros: Excellent, very bright picture quality, with a wide range of settings to fit any condition or use. The stand is of good quality, allowing for any number of adjustments. It doesn't move or shake out of position, and I believe the locking pin is only needed to secure the display for shipping. It's the best LCD I've ever owned, all things considered. Widescreen DVDs are great, and all my games are HUGE! Some of them don't autoadjust and stretch to the full width of the screen, but I don't think I want them to. Can hardly wait to get a BluRay hooked up. I don't need two displays anymore.

Cons: Arrived looking like it was rolled down a hill all the way from Edison NJ. However, no physical damage to the display was discovered, so I guess the packaging did the job it was made for. But, the top foam insert was broken in half, and there were some fingerprints on the frame (not mine)! QA! QA! There were no other signs that it was "previously enjoyed". Once connected, I found at least five dead pixels, all in a row, all white. NewEgg return policy states that eight dead/stuck pixels to invoke warranty. They asked if I had spoken with the manufacturer, but I don't want a refurb in exchange for a brand new display. Need to recount the dead ones and hopefully I'll get to eight. If not, then I'll contact Samsung. The five I noticed appear in a horizontal line across the center of the panel. Thought I could ignore them, but it's tough, and now the wife is starting to nag me!

Overall Review: Don't worry about the pixels. On a screen this size, it's not a huge issue, and the overall quality of the 2493HM is truly superior to a number of smaller displays that I've owned over the years, from 14" Dells to 20" ViewSonics. Any display can have pixel problems. I'm not sorry I bought it, and I would buy it again, but hopefully not right away =-)
