No it does not. There is a slightly more expensive version of this that has screws with it, not sure if there is a bracket. This thing only includes the sticker and the manuals/dvd.

I plan on getting this and wanted to know If I'd have to buy windows again? I currently have it installed on my hard drive but I'd like it to be on the ssd for a faster boot.

The included CDROM has a migration tool.  To use it, insert the SSD into a USB->SATA adapter (I took apart an external HD to use that), boot off the old HD, run the migrator, and let it sit.  It's very finnicky, and will appear broken at times.  Just let it roll!

Once the migration is complete, swap in your SSD and you're good.

(since I was using a laptop, I didn't have the ability to attach both drives via SATA.  I don't know if it would work that way on a desktop, but all the documentation uses USB logos for the SSD)

Question 3

I have a desktop and want to migrate my boot HD to this SSD.  I'll still run my HD for large file storage but boot Win 7 from the SSD.  Will the migration CD do the transfer with the SSD connected to the SATA III cable?  All references to migration I read are for laptops 'replacing' their HD.   Are their docs for this routine on the web somewhere?

  I have owned nothing but Mac s  since 2005, so i dont know
  how it works on windows  machines.  I used carbon copy cloner
   and installed  the new ssd in a enclosure and connected it to
   my macbook pro with a usb cable.   Carbon copy Cloner is available
   on a trial  bases.

If I buy the above, will it come with any cables etc.?

It comes with everything pictured in the 4th picture on this product page.  It does not include the Sata data cable you will need, but they are rather easy to come by and you can buy one here on newegg for rather cheap.

The SSD purchase came with:

-A software CD with samsung data migration and ssd management
- Manual, and all those legal papers
- Little Samsung stickers,

so all in all just make sure you have a spare Sata data cable (Sata III preferably) and of course the necessary SATA power cable spare on your power supply.

Question 5

Does this come with the SATA->USB cable?  My laptop originally had Windows Vista on it and I've updated to Win7->Win8.  I don't want to install Vista and go through that process if I install an SSD.

Fantastic product. No cable.

I had to reload my OS and frequently used files, but it was worth the hassle. Everything runs instantly now. I keep backups and less frequently used stuff on the hard drive. Figure a full day of doing nothing else to get the OS moved, and then several weeks of picking up loose ends. You can use Norton Ghost to Xerox the drive, but I didn't do it that way.

Does the Samsung come with a mounting bracket?

No!  Samsung does not know what computer a ssd will be installed.  Example, most laptops have different caddy's and cable lengths. You must order a caddy & SATA Cable that matches your laptop.  Desktop are all the same.

Caddy's are what the call the mount brackets.

NO it does not come with cables but does have software disk that call an "installation disk" what on the disk i am not sure it want to install but i see no reason to do so

Does this contain mounting brackets to fit a standard ATX 3.5" desktop bay?

This comes with a 2.5" adapter, you can fit it in your laptop sure or in a 2.5 enclosure but you will have to buy another adapter if you want to fit it in a 3.5 desktop bay

You can, but I don't think you would see a speed improvement in a PS3.

Do I need to also buy a bracket to install it in my desktop?

Yes, you will need a 2.5 to 3.5 inch adapter bracket unless your case is set up to accept a 2.5" drive.  If this is a new build, get the bare drive and a good bracket - Vantec makes a good metal one.

If you are migrating an existing OS install, they make a desktop kit that includes the drive, a bracket and a USB to SATA adapter to clone your old OS over to the new drive.
