Will this work in my Acer Aspire 5253-BZ656?

It probably depends on the type of connector in your computer.  This drive has a SATA interface, which has a single two-part connector (half for power and half for data).  You might open up your computer, remove the drive and take a look.  If yours also has an SATA interface, this drive should do the trick.  The black bevel on the front can be removed and replaced with the one from your machine.   Good luck.

Will this be compatible with the EVGA's Hadron-air case?

No it can not.  This dvd drive is exactly like the ones on a laptop. It has a tray that ejects/ slides out.  The Hadron-air needs a slot loading dvd drive.  Slot loading drives dont have a tray that slides out.  They simply have an opening that a dvd is inserted into and a motor pulls it in and ejects it out.

Dell is not enough information as there are far too many models. If you talking about a laptop then the drive is the right size but the front bezel will probably have to be replaced with the original as will any attached mounting hardware. Your best bet is to search the web for the model number of the drive you're replacing.

NO. Just the drive. This is for a laptop so there isn't a wire harness. Only needs one screw to mount it and if your laptop already has a DVD drive just use the same screw.

Purchase a Dell Inspiron 15 3537 without an optical drive.  It does have a slot for one. A blank insert that is removable.  Once the blank is removed by the one screw will this drive plug in and be secured with the same screw, or is there more to installing  it?

I'm not sure. Often there is a tab sticking out of the back of laptop optical drives that receives the 'one screw' that you mentioned. This drive does not have such a tab attached. But there are screw holes where a tab could be attached roughly centered on the back of the drive.  Maybe the tab is removable from your old Dell drive?  I had intended this to be a spare replacement as well, but have'nt gotten to try it yet...

Yes, the drive will work flat (disc label facing up from a table) or vertical (disc label facing a wall).  I have this drive in a monitor-mounted mini-ITX case and it works fine.

I have a Toshiba 32 bit Windows 7 laptop with a Satellite L505D dvd burner, will this fit to replace the dvd burner?

This drive is a replacement for many laptop optical drives, but it would be wise to remove the existing drive and make certain they are the same.

In most cases you'll need to carefully remove the plastic trim from the front of the existing drive and install it in place of the one on the new drive (there are press-to-release type tabs that retain them), and may need to move mounting hardware (a bracket or tab, for instance) from the old to the new drive as well.

Will this replace my defective drive in my toshiba laptop?    What do I look for when checking to see if it is compatible?

I would imagine it would so long as it fits in the drive slot. You need to look at the connectors as it is not a traditional SATA connection.....I do believe it is specifically designed for laptop deployments and I needed the adaptors to get it to work in a server slim server configuration. That is a laptop, yes? As long as the current drive is SATA, yes it would work. The plastic trim may be a different story. You may be better off trying to match brands. The trim should snap off of the disc tray. pry it gently because the snaps on the trim will break if you pull or tweak them wrong.

Be sure you transfer any brackets or mounting hardware to the new drive.
