Can this monitor be mounted to a swivel arm?

It's only setup to use the existing pedestal stand (no mounting screws on the back).  You can try using a Non-VESA Monitor Conversion Bracket but with the extra cost (I think they're around $100), you would probably be better off finding a slightly more expensive monitor that is VESA mount compatible.

Question 2

Will a 'NORMAL' HDMI CABLE work with this thing or is there some sort of 'Sub-d' thing I need? I just want to ue=se HDMI to hook this dang thing up.

Yep your normal HDMI cable would do it.  Easy peasy.  My wife loves this since it matches her office theme color.  Good monitor, a bit too short of a stand if you ask me tho.

Can I do split screen with this monitor?

Yes, the monitor comes with VGA cable.
As far as split screen goes: If you mean to split it to show 2 different applications, the monitor has nothing to do with it. It's the system that you are using that controls that. If you mean to extend on the second monitor, that's up to your video card, and nowadays most of them support dual-monitor arrangement.

I just hooked this up to a new HP Pavilion, but am not getting any sound.  Are the internal speakers that I should check the settings or settings on the computer?  I am using VGA connections, would HDMI help?

Yes,  you can use an hdmi cable directly from the mac to the monitor.  (or you can also use mac display port to hdmi adapter)

Is it common to have 1/4" of transparent gray on the edge of the screen?

Having a gray border is usually indicative of an incorrect resolution setting. You should be able to resolve the issue by adjusting your resolution or using the monitor's auto-adjust function.  Otherwise, it may be a limitation of your particular video card.  I don't think it's a problem with the monitor, otherwise, you wouldn't have the gray border.  Hope this helps.

Is 1920x1080 the maximum resolution?

1920x1080 is the native resolution. With some software/video drivers you can set a custom resolution above 1920x1080, however, the image will be scaled down. This will reduce performance (higher overhead for your GPU) and degrade quality for finer details such as text. However, it does reduce aliasing (jaggies) in games and can be used as a form of "super sampling."

Most 1080p monitors can handle a custom input of up to 2560x1440p, with some going as high as 3840x2160. I don't know how far you can push this one, but outside of custom resolutions, yes, the native 1080p resolution is the max.

I haven't used it with macbook pro (late 2013) but don't see the reason why not. It has hdmi port, macbook pro (late 2013) has it also.

It works with MacBook Pros.

I just walked over to the PC and plugged the HDMI cable into my MacBook Pro and almost instantly it was working as a secondary display.

Yes it is compatible with windows 7 which I run on my system. I am running it via HDMI cable from my  SAPPHIRE DUAL-X 100373-2L Radeon R9 280 3GB 384-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 video card.
