My Nvidia 980TI lets me select 50hz, 59hz, and 60hz. But there's also a setting in the monitors menus to change the "Response Time" to "Standard","Faster", or "Fastest", with the info text saying "Accelerate the panel response rate to make video appear more vivid and natural." I haven't done any testing of my own, I just leave it set to Fastest.

In short, no. HDMI will provide you a much higher quality picture and can carry both audio and video signals.

Zach183, This has been a very good monitor for movies, youtube  and text editing. I have not used this monitor for Photo/video editing.  Overall I would recommend it as an excellent choice.

The specs say D-Sub but I only see VGA. Can someone clear this up?

D-Sub and VGA are the same thing. This monitor only has VGA and HDMI inputs.
