Question 1

Can this be used to replace primary (boot) drive in an HP dc5700 desktop? If so, what hardware (if any) would I need to make it fit the larger drive bay?  Computer is upgradable to Win-7 Pro, which I plan to do eventually, using a larger-capacity HD in bay 2 - right now I just want to rescue as much of my old (80-gig) scrambled hard drive data as I can, onto a "New" XP-Pro drive. 
Which may be yet another issue (no MS support) but what is life without a few challenges?

I just looked up your model of desktop and this drive should work fine for what you would want to do with it. SSDs perform the exact same function as normal hard drives so replacing an existing drive with it shouldn't be an issue(I'm using it as a main drive right now). SSDs are generally much faster than spinning hard drives so this will probably be a substantial upgrade.

Does this work in a vizio laptop?

I have two of these, one in a Dell and one in a Sony.  The speed will depend on if the laptop is SATA1, 2 or 3.  The connectors are in the same location as a standard laptop hard drive.

Is sata III the same as msata (That is what the manufacturerer requires), would it work on a HP Envy 700-200Z?

Hello, SATA III refers to revisions of original SATA and is backward compatable with sata II. III allows speeds up to 6GB/sec vs. 3GB/sec with sata II. msata is revision 3.1 or SATA for solid state drives. The connection is smaller and will not fit in a standard SATA connector as it is narrower. It is electrically the same and can be used with a adapter.
The Envy you list is a desktop, I don't see why a msata would be needed. To increase speed at a reasonable price I would recommend a Seagate Hybrid Drive. It combines standard 7200rpm and SSD in one. The 2TB is on Sale NOW for $99.99 at Newegg. Sizes for laptops are also available.

It depends on the laptop. If it uses standard sata 3 type hookup, you're all set. But there are other connector setups possible that the drive would not hook up to and some laptops use them. Hunt up the laptop manufacturer's site and see what the laptop uses.

No.  You need to find that yourself, but there are a number of programs that are easy to find out there.

Is this unit compatible with Lenovo Ideapad N585?

As long as the drive you're replacing isn't mSATA, I think you can use this. This is a regular SATA drive for a laptop or desktop. However, it might be necessary to purchase a kit to make it fit in there right, because this SSD is very slim and could be too skinny. The kit, if needed, would make the drive a little bit fatter and keep it from sliding around.

ive seen on some ssd they said sata 2,3.0gb backward capable, i dont see it clearly stated for this one, could i use this on a sata 2 mobo , it would just be slower than 3.0 ?

It will run on your SATAII board.  SATA III is just for burst data if I remember correctly so you should not see a major difference in performance.

Does anyone know if this HD is compatible with OSX? I want to install on 2009 20" iMac EMC 2133 model A1224.

It should, I purchased 3 of the 64GB and three of the 128GB when they were on shell shocker.  I have used them in new (Intel Z77 MB) and old (Intel Q965 - ICH8 - MB) laptops / desktops with no issue with the OS/Bios recognizing them.
