I don't know if my problem will be solved by simply backdating to USB 2.0, I need to know if this can also be formated in the old FAT32 file system standard...?

not sure what you meant by "backdating to USB 2.0"...USB 2.0/3.0 is "transfer" technology, FAT32 is file system... FAT32 is limited to 32GB, so if you format this 256GB thumb drive with FAT32, you would only see 32GB of disk space.
