Usb 3.0 is backwards compatible. Yes, and vice versa as well. Data rates will vary as a result from using 1.0, 2.0, and/or 3.0.

Only the plastic sticks out. Probably a 1/2in at the most.

Can i use this to boot apple on a windows PC?

You could but these flash drives run very hot. I would make another choice and read the reviews to see if it runs cool.
