I also had some concerns and saw some conflicting measurements.  Installed mine is just about 12 exactly inches from mount plate on the back panel into the case.  I have a full size case and still have some room to grow.  Hope this helps

Will this fit inside a NZXT S340?

If it is a full size atx case, I should fit. It is a LARGE card, but I fit it inside my Antec twelve hundred pretty easily. I also have a smaller midsize Azzo case, which it also fit into, bit it was quite tight.
These 300 series are hit and miss though... They are having the same problems as the older 200s were with black screening. I already set mine up for RMA and ordered an MSI r9. Now I'm hoping it doesn't happen again.

Can this card be used on a ASUS P6X58d motherboard?

Yes, that mobo has pcie 2.0, which is back words compatible with cards designed for pcie 3.0.
I  currently use the card on my mobo which is asus m5a97 r2.0, aka not as good as your mobo and it performs as expected.
As long as you have a good cpu that won't bottleneck it. Any i5 or i7 from that Gen won't have a problem with it though.

is this thing really 8" wide??  On Sapphire's site it state the card is 127mm(5inches) wide.  I'd like to buy this card but there is no way an 8 inch card will fit

No. Definitely not. I'm not at home right now, but I know for a fact it wasn't 8 inches wide. It seemed to be more around 5 inches wide. I can measure when I get home if now one else gives you a for sure answer

So I'm thinking of moving up from my current GTX 750 FTW 2GB to a higher end card. My budget is $300-$380. I caught between this AMD card and the GTX 970 3.5GB+500MB FTW+ (Notice what I did there). I am aware that this card is rather larger and I was also wondering if I could squeeze this monster into my Coolermaster Elite case. I'm aware of both of these cards specs, but I'm wanting some consumer input on which they would prefer. So is this slightly better than the 970 FTW+?

I'm really biased towards AMD, and in particular the Sapphire versions of their graphics cards. This is the second one I've owned now (after my 290 Tri-X). Both cards are massive, and they both generate a lot of heat (typically idle around 45-55 C, depending on room temp), but they perform masterfully against other cards in their price range and I've never had any issues with either that weren't due to user error/confusion. I considered getting the GTX 970, but you don't get even half the memory size for the same price. Making that decision was easy for me. And while I don't know about your case size, I had no problem fitting this monster into my case after I removed one hard drive bay. Just double check your case size (and also make sure your Mobo has enough PCI ports for this). Good luck!

What is the size ? im either blind or its not on the specs

I own this GPU. I bought it under the assumption it was 12.1" like the Sapphire R9 290X, and it is.

I got worried because while it was being shipped newegg updated the specs to say 13.25, and my case has a maximum GPU size of 13 inches. But its not that big. Its just over 12 inches long.

Question 7

Would it be safe to drop one of these in a PC with a 550W PSU?

I know the 290 required a 750w. Has the efficiency been improved, or would I be better off with the GTX970? I really wanted to try out the Red Team for this build, but I don't want to buy a different PSU when I just got this one off the ground.

I've had the same question myself. somewhere online I read that it takes appx. 230-270w? note this is the actual GPU NOT THE PSU recommended wattage for the entire pc(I honestly doubt its that low lol). Also the GTX970s need a 750w PSU min if I recall correctly, so your pc would be power starved if you got that. I hate to break it to ya but you prob might have to upgrade your psu to 750-850w just to be on the safe side, thats what I did I have a 500w PSU and I know for a fact it'd be power starved lol so I just bought a 850W PSU. I hope this helps you out a bit.

Does this card have the new HBM type memory?

No this doesn't have HBM. It does have some technology and new software in the new cards/designs but that's it. There is only three cards with HBM which all are Fiji gpus and none have been released.It just been said that Fury X "One of the main Fiji Gpus will be launched on the 24 th this upcoming week.

does this card support Multiple cards and what is the best way for them to sync? haven't done multiple Radeons yet, and I am not very familiar with the interface. I know some can do crossfire X or crossfire. The Specifications aren't shown here.

Because the later versions of ati cards no longer have a bridge connector, the R9-285 and later card now uses the system's PCI-E bus to make the bridge. So just plug in the cards and update drivers is all you need to do.

Also on a side note. You might want to make measurements of your case as this card is 13.25 inches. I was lucky enough to have a modular hdd bay so I could move it around in my mid tower.
