Not sure where my earlier reply went, if your mobo is an older board which I'm guessing it is if it has SATA 2 connectors then check your mobo bios.  If it is not a UEFI bios, the card will NOT work.  Read my review under Dale N for details on how to check which bios you are using.  BTW Patrick J is correct.  You connect a GPU via a PCIE 2 or 3 slot.  SATA has nothing to do with GPU installation.

Look at the games you want to play and check out reviews online (benchmarks).  AMD graphics cards will provide more cost effective options if you want a monitor to support adaptive sync technology (Freesync vs Gsync).  The difference between AMD and Nividia  at competitive price points tends to be 3-5%, depending on the game.

No, you must use a 6 or 8pin PCI cable from your power supply as each power supply's cables could be a little different.

I have an older computer. It is an HP p6- 2378 pc. Is anyone else running this in an older style computer successfully?

It will work, but you won't get the full benefit. The pc you mentioned you have is older and so is PCIE Gen 2.0. This card is PCIE 3.0. It's backwards compatible, but you may not get the full benefit of it.

What kind of power connector does it require? Standard 8 pin? I've seen other Sapphire 580s that require 8 and 6 which seems really overkill.

Just 1x 8-pin power connector. The ones that are 6+8 are usually due to the mild overclocking it has, and offers users headroom to try and reach higher if they want without being limited by wattage.
