Q: I have a queston about the the DVI connector on this card. This card has the DVI connector with the 24+4 configuration. My samsung monitor has DVI but not the 24+4, just the 24- configuration. Will it be OK to use a DVI cable with only the 24- connectons? I was not able to locate one with different connectors? I dont really want to use an adapter.

The card connector has the +4 holes for analog..the monitor does not have the +4 holes just a single - connecton...maybe Im thinking this to death, but I am wondering if the DVI port will work with a cable that does not have the +4 analog connectors.

As long as there are drivers for your Operating System, then it matters not what version of Direct X the card is compatible with. I confirmed on AMD webpage that the video card will work on your older OS --> It doesn't mention that the latest Catalyst Drivers are compatible with Windows XP but it is. --> Hope that helps!

Amazon lists the card size as 9.2 x 2.2 x 6 inches and that seems pretty accurate, I don't have a ruler handy but looking at it that is within a 1/2 inch of correct.

P.S. I am really happy with the card I was a bit worried about a fan-less card but it works great and no noise...

second question, does the bit rate on the video card have to match to bit rate on the operating system?

No I bought this and I was extremely pleased. If I had a 128-bit operating system I would be even more pleased. Just keep in mind this particular graphics card now has a huge heat pipes so it is a little larger than it appears in the picture. My only qualm with the product. Hope this answered your question, it does not need to match the 128-bit.

Question 3

I'm unable to extend to a third display with this video card. I'm using the DVI, Display Port and HDMI. I see it says it supports daisy chained monitors for the Display Port. But is it possible to use all 3 connections for 3 monitors? 2 are at a resolution of 1920x1200. One will be a lower res.

Nearly every video card with 3 outputs can only drive 2 at a time, this card is no exception.

I know it doesn't have an external power cable, but just to be sure, would a PSU with 18 amp rails work?

I'm pretty sure that should work, like you said there's no power connectors,  I ran this card in cross fire with an APU and a 1000W modular PSU, I think it has that many rails on it too. By all rights it should work, but I'm more concerned about is everything else in your rig, as far as I know it'll work as long as you have enough wattage and a pci-e 2.0 slot.

I agree with Michael T from above. As long as you can install a more powerful power supply, then you should enjoy this card. I think 300W is the minimum needed to get this card running

The answer is a resonding maybe.

The mother board will support this card in that it has a pci-16 slot.  This is a large video card.  It may not physically fit inside your case. I have never had good luck upgrading HP machines.  They are built very tight.

You can look at the specifications for your machine in the HP Support center.  If you search for the model number you gave, it will be in the top 5 results.
