When using HDMI, is the audio sent through the HDMI cable to the built-in speakers, or is a separate audio cable needed?

It is sent through HDMI, as long as you're using a HDMI output on your PC or source equipment.

This is my issue: The monitor will not shut completely off with the HDMI cable. I have my settings on my Win7  PC to shut off monitor after ten minutes. The screen will go dark but the monitor stays alive. As in: Blue light is steady,  LED backlighting stays on. It still sees the input signal as on.

It works fine with both the VGA and DVI inputs. The monitor will show "No Input Signal" and shut off. Goes completely dark and the blue light will blink.

Any thoughts why the HDMI input will not allow the monitor to shut completely off? Thanks..

Your windows setting only puts the monitor to sleep. Why do you need to shut the monitor off completely?

Frame is glossy, screen is matte, base is dusty (my fault).
