Does the Seagate Expansion 2TB Portable Hard Drive come with the cord to plug into your laptop ?

cord is too short which reduces its flexibility. Cord is too stiff. The female USB connector will be pried off quickly at both ends.  The HH drive have thin motherboard. The metal cup for the cord is too thin and enlarge.

IS THIS COMPATIBLE WITH  A MAC AS WELL AS WINDOWS?

You would have to reformat it for Mac to use it. That takes all of about 5 minutes. For both Mac and Windows to see it you would need to format it as fat 32 or Exfat.  Not hard to do.

Google:  Format an external drive in Fat32 or Exfat to learn how.

There are plenty of Youtube and Lifehacker etc. hand holding out there.

I gave it away as a gift but it was basically a small pocketable 
laptop size drive. The actual dimension should be listed under 
specs or you can always go to Seagate's website or call them. 
It was a very good drive but Seagate makes a similar one that is thinner and aluminum for a bit more money which is more robust for travel. This drive isn't going anywhere so perfect for its intended use.

Is USB compatible with other USB ports?

All the ports on my old computer are 2.0 USB. It works fine in these ports. Of course, it's not as fast as 3.0 USB ports.

My workstation is not USB 3 enabled and it worked without issue although transfer rates were obviously slower.

I can't say definitively if it is compatible with your Acer desktop because I haven't tried it on that particular machine but if your desktop supports USB 3.0 it should be fine.

Yes.  You'll have a performance hit, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

Yes, it should be fine, Windows will see it as an external drive and you can just drop your files on it in the structure you like.

Yes, this is a 2.5" drive. I have not tried to take it apart for just the drive, but quite frankly I don't know why you would. This drive is compact and fast.
