Yes, the hard drive can be used with a Windows PC. It is essentially an Xbox-branded version of the Seagate Expansion Portable external drive, which is also available on Newegg at a slightly lower cost.

Has any0ne cracked this open to see if the spinpoint has SATA connections?  I'd like to use this as an internal drive, not external.

I have not. Was just adding more room to my xbox one. however, You could probably get a 2tb  2.5 hard drive around the same price. I bought one for my ps4 last year when I upgraded my ps4 hard drive.

is this external hard drive just for xbox game only?  not for picture, video or file?

If you are using the hard drive with the Xbox One, it can only be used for either games or multimedia as the system currently uses different formats for each. You can either use it to store downloaded games or you can use it to save video, such as with the upcoming DVR feature which requires an external drive.
